Do you have storm damage? Hail and high winds will damage your roof and it is nearly impossible to see the damage from the ground. Our staff has been well trained and knows exactly what to look for. The ‘granules’ are what protect your shingles from being exposed to the sun’s UV rays. Hail hits remove these granules. Granules eventually break down causing roof leaks and further damage. Also, wind may blow shingles loose therefore they will never re-seal, this will usually cause further damage. After your free inspection, we will report their findings. If there is not significant damage on your roof to justify filing an insurance claim, we will let you know. We do not advise homeowners to file a claim on marginal storm damage. If there is damage insurance adjusters call 'non-repairable', we will advise you. We are very confident your insurance company will replace your roof, less the cost of your deductible. We have a very high success rate of having roofs replaced when we recommend filing a claim. How it Works: Cardinal Catastrophe Services makes this process as straightforward as possible. Once adequate damage has been detected, the first step is filing a claim with your insurance company. The most important item when filing a claim (besides knowing your storm date) is to make sure the insurance company knows that Cardinal Catastrophe Services is to be notified when the adjuster comes to your home to inspect your roof. Our staff meets the adjuster at your home making sure we are talking “apples to apples” about the damage to your home. This ensures that the scope of the work is agreed to up front, rather than arguing after the fact about extra roofing costs that may occur. The adjuster will decide if your roof is “totaled” meaning you receive a new roof. Cardinal Catastrophe Services will respectfully request that you sign a clear-cut release form which legally binds us to do the work as stated by your insurance company and also ensures that all monies go towards the work they deem necessary. Your insurance summary for dwelling will have a grand total of what your roof will cost to replace based on fair market costs (Xactimate software), minus your deductible and depreciation. The insurance company will make the first check out to you and your mortgage company (if you have a mortgage). This check will be for an amount considerably less than what it costs to replace your roof. Insurance companies do not usually pay all monies up front. We request funding from the insurance company for the total cost of the roof as your project goes into production. A second check is then issued by the insurance company covering the difference. (Most insurance companies accept our agreement and pay the monies in full immediately.) The only responsibilities you have are to choose shingles and to pay your deductible. Cardinal Catastrophe Services does the work line by line as the insurance states.

"Cardinal Catastrophe was the perfect company to take care of the damage to our house following a bad hail storm. We had zero experience with filing this type of insurance claim and Cardinal helped us navigate the process every step of the way. A representative drove to our house and met with us soon after we called and took care of all the necessary paperwork and contact with the insurance company. Our project manager was incredibly knowledgeable, respectful and quick to respond. She kept us updated as the materials were ordered, delivery times and workers on the premises since I work mid shifts with many different groups working on the roof, siding, gutters, downspouts and garage door. Not only does all the work done look awesome, all the parties responsible for the work were polite and cleaned up after themselves so there was nothing left behind. Soon after the work was done each day another representative would respond and ensure the work site was cleaned up to our satisfaction. They went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of and that our roof and extensive repairs were exactly what we wanted. I would highly recommend them to anyone in need of home repairs!"

You’ll know you have smoke damage if you notice a lingering smoky odor, see soot or residue, or spot any discoloration of surfaces in your home. If you have any kind of house fire, always assume you have smoke damage and hire a professional who deals with smoke damage to assess the extent of the damage and restore your home to its pre-fire condition.

You can look at the duct damper’s lever to see if it’s open or closed. If the lever is parallel to the duct, the damper is open. If it’s perpendicular, the damper is closed. Alternatively, you can hold your hand against vents throughout your home. If you feel air coming out, that damper is partially or fully open. No airflow likely means that the damper is closed.

There are several signs that your house might have poor ventilation, including lingering odors, condensation on your windows, or mold and mildew. Your home may also feel stale and stuffy, or you might have trouble maintaining a comfortable temperature in your home. On top of that, you might develop allergy symptoms, such as sneezing, coughing, or headaches.

Prepare to leave your home for a long absence by making sure small appliances and electronic devices are unplugged. You should also shut valves to your sinks, dishwasher, and washing machine. Set your thermostat closer to outside temperatures or a minimum of 55 degrees Fahrenheit, stop your mail (or have someone pick it up), and put at least one light on a timer.

Evacuate immediately and call professionals for emergency inspection and repairs.
