"It's been a very long time since I have dealt with someone with such great business practices. They were timely in getting to me and got my window fixed as soon as possible. The shade of window did not match the window next to it, so, at their own expense they fixed this problem. This is something you usually have to fight for in today's world and they did it without hesitation. They are a friendly, professional company, who stands behind their work. I would recommend them in a heartbeat to everyone I know. I'm sure glad I found them."

Windows questions, answered by experts

The material around a window is simply called the window frame, but the individual pieces also have different names. The top portion of the frame is called the head, the side pieces are called jambs, and the bottom portion is called the sill. If you have multiple windows next to each other, you’ll also have a mullion, which is the frame piece that separates the individual windows. Windows stacked on top of each other are separated by a horizontal frame piece, which is called a transom.

The entire window replacement process, from the initial consultation to the final installation, typically takes between four and 15 weeks. This timeline accounts for measuring appointments, ordering, and manufacturing. On the day of the job, the physical installation takes about 30 minutes to two hours per window. A full-house replacement can take one to three days to complete. Factors that can extend this timeline include the total number of windows, custom sizes, complex window types, second-story installations, and any necessary repairs to existing window frames or openings.

Tinting your windows will make your house darker since it will prevent some sunlight from getting inside. While you can choose a window film that is on the lighter side, there will still be reduced sunlight. If natural light is important to you, tinted windows might not be the best choice for your home.

Most standard windows can accommodate solar screens, but specialty shapes or non-standard frames may require custom solutions. It’s important to consult with a professional to ensure compatibility and proper fit for unique window designs. Arched, bay, and fabricated windows often need fabricated screens, which can increase costs and lead time.

Using plastic shrink film over the window will cut down on drafts, which makes the air inside your home feel warmer. Plastic shrink film doesn’t quite have the insulative properties of a new window or of adding insulation inside the window jamb, but it will help. Plus, it’s a cost-effective solution to keeping your home warmer.
