If you're designing a new patio in an area with poor drainage, permeable pavers made from porous materials may help prevent water issues. Most permeable pavers feature a gravel-only aggregate base instead of a concrete base to allow water to flow through instead of getting trapped. These paver materials also do well with ice and snow, unlike brick or concrete pavers. You can also install a driveway retaining wall to help prevent pavers and gravel from shifting over time.

A paved driveway adds $5,000 to $7,000 to the value of your home. That’s because it increases your curb appeal and the functionality of your outdoor space, which appeals to potential buyers.
