There was a misunderstanding from the start. I saw that they wanted a downpayment, but I asked the owner (Ryan) once I accepted the bid if we were good, and he said yes, they would be starting around the first of Nov, 2015. Around that date, I contacted him and asked if we were still a go. He informed me he gave away our date because I didn't send a check. I told him I didn't realize I had to send a check as he told me we were all good. I'd asked if he needed anything from me, and he said no. He said that he had to have a downpayment to even PUT ME ON THE SCHEDULE. I told him I'd never had to put money down to get an appointment. I didn't mind putting money down once they showed up for the job. But I went ahead and sent the $2550. (30% down). He then told me "I seemed like I was going to be difficult, not being mean just being honest". OOOKAY. He'd also said if he got the check in the next couple days they'd be able to start by Thanksgiving. Well, he got it and immediately cashed it, then radio silence. Up until that point, he was quick to return calls and emails. I called again the afternoon of Monday, Dec 14, 2015. Was told they'd be here at 8 am Tuesday the 15th. They showed up about 10:30 with excuses and said it'd be about a 3 day project, done by Friday most likely. I had a recital to attend and left when they left for lunch. They asked when I’d be back and I said around 3:30 (I left around 1 p.m.). I said around 3:30. I got back about 2:15, they didn’t get back from lunch until 3:30. That’s fine, I was paying by the job, not the hour. They promised the next morning to be here no later than 8:30. Again, it was a few hours later than they said. They had to take down a section of my fencing to access my house, that was fine. They came and went as they wished, I couldn’t get a straight answer out of the crew chief again. The job ended up taking about a MONTH instead of a few days. They’d show up one day, not for a few days, show up at 2 p.m. when it gets dark at 4 or 4:30 then say they had no light and ask to borrow our lights to work (here’s a tip, it’s dark under houses). They encountered water under the house. No pump. Tree roots, no chain saw. Ill prepared to say the least. I had an asthma attack one day, which only happens around cigarette smoke. Sure enough, they’re all smoking outside my bedroom window. Mention it to them and they say “sorry, technically that’s a terminable offense, we shouldn’t have done that”. Tony, the head guy, told me he’d tie in the drip line from our AC unit to existing drain lines. I asked if he’d done it, he assured me he had. I had pneumonia during some of this, so didn’t check. I found out after I finished paying, it wasn’t done at all. He also told me that the duct to one of our AC vents wasn’t connected and he would fix it. No clue if he also skipped that. They took off one night and didn’t bother to tell me they were finished. They left trash all over my yard, fence broken down, window screen out, tools, hoodies, you name it. Definitely didn’t clean up and leave the place as if they weren’t here, which was something we were promised. Janelle Musick called asking for the payment. I sent a check and then she wanted the remainder that I wished to pay with credit card. I wished to put it on two cards and authorized a certain amount on each one. A couple days later, I got an email receipt. She charged $50 more to each one (plus the 2.5% service fee for using credit card, which I did know about). Yes, I made a mistake in my calculations and was $100 short. NO, I didn’t authorize that to my card. She should have called and told me there was a mistake and did I want it taken from one or both cards or to send another check. You don’t just charge a person’s card just because you have their number! The beginning of April, we started having a lot of rain. I could smell moisture coming from under the house. Everywhere they dug for the piers under the house, they didn’t bother to fill in! I have all these pits under the house that are filling with water and therefore the water can’t get to the sump pump….mold waiting to happen. I emailed Ryan Musick, the owner. No reply. Several emails later, no reply. I started calling, no reply. I finally got hold of Jack, who said Ryan would call me back (this was in JUNE). July 6, Ryan sent me a FB message stating that he’d like to make it good and would Saturday, July 16, 2016 be good for him to come and fill in the holes and that he’s working out of his minivan because his business isn’t good. I sent a reply back that it’d be fine, but what time? No reply. I therefore had to change my existing plans and wait. And wait. I waited all day, and even sent another message asking if he was still coming. I even ordered extra dirt and had it delivered Friday, the 15th, to be certain he had plenty of dirt for the task. Ryan never showed, typical of his disregard for other people’s time. Now it has been three and a half months of trying to get them to make good on this and nothing. I have even sent in a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. This is the guy who, when I told him at the beginning of the job that I was concerned they’d taken my money because they delayed so long and didn’t return my calls, told me he didn’t understand that because he’s an “honest Christian guy” and that I have a lifetime guarantee with their work. RUN, don’t walk, as fast as you can away from this business.

We live on a farm in a rural area - our house is approximately 100 yrs old - two levels with basement -  my husband has COPD (which means he only has 50% of his breathing) after meeting with Ryan and Janelle and making a down payment of $2000.00 in August - we waited for them to come.  They finally came on Oct 17th and brought no fans etc with them, they started grinding the walls in the basement with a big grinder - not the one that was supposed to be used - I had no idea the dust would come up through my house and engulf everything -  because of that my house sustained I would estimate $9,000.00 of damages - I called Ryan the next morning - they did not come until a week later only after I called and asked them too - Ryan was outside and my daughter Courtney and I talked to his wife Janelle and said I wanted my house cleaned up - me being mrs nice guy said we would wash the windows and hang the curtains - clean my 3 china cabinets - we stayed here the whole time in the most nasty smelling everything covered in concrete mess ever and started cleaning up (even though Ed has COPD) they did offer to get us a hotel room - but there are none around here and we had no place to go.  So 10 days after it happened Service Masters came in to clean.  They said they thought they were doing a one day job - after they came in they said it was hazmat and had to be cleaned up right - vacuum and wash down the walls - they were told to do the outside of 5 rooms - I said I would do the other - Fivestone pd 3500.00 for that and to get our ductwork cleaned 500.00.  We waited another week and Service Masters cleaned the 5 rooms - 2 days - we worked for 3 months literally washing every curtain, sheer, blankets, sheets, towels, mattress pads, etc and I did over 350 loads of laundry.  Then we had to inside of every cabinet - starting with our dishes so we could eat - wash the windows and hand the curtains - it all took 3 months and we had to move everything back into our basement which was not cleaned.  We had used our cattle trailer to store stuff in the basement.  The workers were very nice but I feel apparently after what happened to us - not professional - they did approximately &1200.00 extra work in the basement because they felt sorry for us (we didn't even know) we were a little busy upstairs.  We both lost major time off work to clean up our own house!  Janelle called me and said we owed them $1200.00 more than what the remainder was - I finally figured out they were trying to charge us for the extra feet in the basement - well they should have talked to the people who decided to do that.  Ryan said to call him back when Service Masters left - I tried at least 6 times to get ahold of him and he never returned my calls.  We sustained $1000.00 dollars worth of bills because of all this - my husband got very sick and we had numerous dr visits and his inhalers were $500.00.  I also had to wash every piece of clothing in the house which was crazy.  Everyday clothes, dress clothes, every stuffed animal, throws, etc.  We had $277.00 in dry cleaning - coats, 2 comforters, his suits that couldn't be washed.  The last time I talked to Ryan he said they would not pay for that.  We finally had to get a lawyer - now we have those expenses!  We decided not to take further action - but to just pay them the $4200.00 we owed them.  I still feel they owe us at lease $500 for us doing $5000.00 of cleaning in our own house plus the expenses.  Unbelievably I still hope that their company grows.  And I have learned to make sure that whenever you hire a company for work - regardless of what company it is - have a lien waiver signed and every little detail spelled out as to how they are to complete the job.

"[Member Name Removed], this was an unfortunate occurance, as this has never happened before. You are such great people, this was the last thing that I would have wanted to happen to you guys. As you know, last fall we had lost a whole crew of workers due to an accident, and this caused much stress for us and customers. This is why communication was slow. At time of install, I told Roy to use the dustless grinder which was there, but apparrently he use the larger one without the dustless attachment so he could finish the job much quicker. I told him that if he did use it, he must take proper procedures to ensure the dust is contained. He failed to do this as well, and now we had to deal with the dust issue. Life can sometimes throw you curveballs, but we have to make the best of it. We stand behind the quality of our work, and we are pleased to know you were happy with that. I really wanted to help you guys out and that is why I gave you a 25% cash discount for the work done. As for the extra work, Roy told me that you were ok with us doing it and paying to have it done. Obviously this was a miscommunication and was not all true so I will take the loss there. I was happy to pay to have the dust cleaned properly because I want to take care of my customers as much as I can. We do care about you guys, and if you would like an additional $500 we would be ok with sending that to you. Just let us know, and call me directly on my cell if you would like this. Thanks for your business, we do appreciate it."

Determined what the problem was and fixed it.  Later leaked again but they located problem and fixed it without further cost. Did a good job and have gone through heavy rains without any leaks.   Contractor did what they said what they said they would do without any problems.

As with the previous poster, the main problem we had with FiveStone was communication. Ryan came out and estimated the job (and was very nice, according to my husband), and we sent a deposit of one-third. We were told they were coming Oct. 1, which was several weeks after the initial estimate. We had to call to find out they wouldn't be coming until Oct. 12 The job took parts of three or four days, but the frustration came in being told they were coming, and then not having them show up or call at all and having to track them down repeatedly over the course the week or so that they were on the job. I'm lucky I was home recovering from surgery, because if I had had to take off work to do this, I would had a tough time of it.

The workers worked very hard while they were here, but came without some needed supplies and kept asking to borrow our things to do the work (tarps, cardboard, stepladder, box fan, turkey baster to put water in the crack, broom, vacuum, etc.), which also bothered me. They did go out and get plastic sheeting and rags. While they did tarp off the immediate area they were working on, they didn't cover anything else in the room; as a result, everything was completely covered with epoxy dust. They did ultimately clean a lot of it on the last day, but there's still a lot of cleaning for us to do.

I'm frustrated because I found the workers nice and hardworking, as well as the staff in the office and I want to rate them higher. I kept hearing about a car accident or accidents people in their company had had as excuses why they were late or didn't have supplies or hadn't called when they promised they would. I'm truly sorry there were accidents, but I just wanted someone to be honest with me about the schedule and keep me up to date. I hope they can get this communication issue solved.

"[Member Name Removed], thank you for the honest review. We like to be honest as well. I can admit that I can be too relaxed and laid back sometimes. This is why most of my customers like me, but sometimes it has its draw backs. On occasion I can be too lax with my responsiveness with customers, and I apologize if that caused issues with you. We were going through some internal business struggles at the time of your project. We lost a whole crew of workers due to a vehicle accident, and it caused a lot of stress for everyone including our customers. We did not plan for it, and wished it had not happen. Its hard to plan for life sometimes, and manage it. We do appreciate your business, and you guys are such great people. Thanks for making our job a bit easier."

Ryan came over to give me an estimate and was really great. Another company had tried to upsell me and tell me I needed a whole new drain tile system, but Ryan, probably costing himself money, assured me that a new sump pump would solve the problem for a fraction of the cost.
After that, communication was an issue. After I sent in my deposit, nobody got back to me about when the job would happen. Even after they cashed my check, I had to call three days later and get the information myself. And even then, I was just told a couple of days as a range. Every piece of information, be it getting the final estimate, booking the job, or getting the date for the job, I had to initiate contact every time. It was kind of like pulling teeth.
When the crew did come, they worked Friday for about four hours and then left, saying they would finish the job Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning. They didn't come back at all that weekend and none of my phone calls or messages were returned. It was extremely frustrating. I understand that things come up and appointments are missed, but to not call and let me know and make me wait around my house all weekend was totally unprofessional.
However, when they did finally come back on Monday, they got the job done and it looked great. They did a very professional job and they worked their a**** off. I really appreciate that. The communication problems were frustrating, but the job itself, when completed, was excellent.

Response from Fivestone Foundations
"(Removed member name),I apologize for the bad experience you had. We run a small company and try to get back with customers as soon as we can. Communication sometimes gets tough when dealing with multiple customers at once.(no excuse) The Friday we were to finish your project, we were sponsoring a ufc fighter. The fight was that night, but we told the workers there job are to be finished before coming to the fight. Apparently tony and his crew did not finish your project, and I did not find out till Sunday of that weekend that it had not been completed. I was upset with him, and then he tells me that you said it was ok for him to finish on the following monday. I said ok, as long as you cleared that with the customer. Well, long story short, tony must have been lying to me about that. So just to let you know, the situation with our worker not finishing the job and leaving early: then lying to me about it was dealt with properly. We do not put up with that type of behavior here. I really appreciate your business, and I'm glad that you were happy with my estimate and our quality of work that was done for you. Thanks (Removed member name)"

They were not on time, they brought parts form other jobs, they put in a cheap sump pump they, they tore up the yard the workers fought with each other using foul language.  They did not back up their warranty as what was done did not fix the problem.  I would never use them or recommend them.  The wife was nice to talk to but that did not fix the problems and the husband and owner would not back up his work and found ways around the warranty.  We just could not deal with fighting with him so we just let it go and due to his lack of honesty and poor workmanship I would not trust him or his company to even fix the problem.  I don't think he has a clue, but like to talk like he is very experienced.  We have had a lot of contracted work done being a home owner for years but this I can say was he worst experience we ever had.  We felt like we were taken to the cleaners.
Response from Fivestone Foundations
"None of this is true. Every time there was an issue with the project we were prompt to respond. I went to the home owners house on several occasions to fix minor issues. The materials used on the project were commercial grade, and installed correctly. The last time I had visited with the homeowner, she assured me that everything was kosher. She led me to believe that they were happy, but must have lied to me about that. If anyone was dishonest it was Kathy Poindexter. We had made some ruts in the yard because it was raining at the time of the repair, but we had spread grass seed and fertilizer down for them. The battery back up malfunctioned, and I believe it was due to someone tampering with the electric after the install. Also, right off the bat in the beginning of the job the customer was insistent on us doing it for a cheaper price than what was quoted, and we did it for that price to help her out. She gave me a sob story about how poor they were and she had to take care of her handicapped son. I had compassion for her situation and lowered the price. Kathy is a true victim and is a manipulator. I hope that my other happy customers will understand what kind of person I was dealing with. They really just hate people deep down and want something to complain about. Thanks"

Fivestone Foundations crew completed the inside portion of the job in a single afternoon, but the outside portion was more complex than initially thought. The crew leader, Tracy, communicated his findings well and offered solution to complete the planned repair. This required several visits because of torrential rain during the repair.
The job is complete now, but we are still waiting for next rain to judge success

Ryan Musick and his Fivestone Foundations team were professional from the start. Ryan was accessible and prompt for his appointment to bid the project. He quickly took measurements, explained the capabilities of the system he wanted to install and emailed a bid soon after.
The project started the day my family and I left for a summer road trip. The Fivestone team arrived early and got right to work. We were doing last minute packing and loading up our car. The guys were polite and friendly and moving quickly on the job. Apparently, my older home has a thin concrete slab which allowed them to move around the perimeter of the basement in less time than they had anticipated. We left town and left them with access to the basement. Ryan kept us updated on progress and completion of the job. I was pleasantly surprised upon my return, at how clean they had left the basement. I had seen the amount of concrete and dust dislodged at the beginning of the project and there was not a trace when I returned.
It was some time before we had any rain in the St Louis area to test the system and when it did finally arrive, we noticed that a floor drain outside my basement door was clogged with silt. The sump system was not working for this particular exterior drain. I texted a picture to Ryan and he called immediately. He said he would talk to his installers and get back to me. Within the hour, he called back to say that the installer had worried about tying the drain into the sump system and thought that connecting it directly to the sewer line would be a better way to handle the dirt and silt.
Within 24 hours, another Fivestone Foundation team was at my door to connect the floor drain to the sewer line. That was fantastic response time! Again - they were polite, respectful, moved quickly and cleaned up after themselves.
I would highly recommend Fivestone to anyone looking to install a basement drain tile and sump system. They are knowledgable, professional and prompt.

The crew arrived on site on time as promised. They reviewed the crawl space area and explained to me what would be taking place in detail. They protected all areas of the home they would be accessing by placing protective coverings on the floor. They worked the entire time with only taking a short lunch break. They cleaned up their tools and area the first day and returned the next morning on time to finish the job. They also had to dig a drain pipe in the backyard and took care to not damage the yard. The owner of the company, Ryan came the final day to inspect the completion and go over any questions I may have had. They also offered additional service to inspect and maintain the crawl space and sump pump on a yearly cycle which I have signed up for. I would recommend this company and feel they will stand behind their work at all times.
