"The Bici Brothers did a fantastic job on my drywall and paint project! They were timely on their communication, very professional with their work, and had great attention to detail. They went above and beyond and I would definitely hire them again for my next project. I couldn’t be happier with the results and at a fair price too!"

"We had some drywall repair work where our ceiling had gotten wet, then painting in 2 bathrooms where the paint was old and mold hard to control. The repair work is great and the whole area looks like new. Great attention to detail in the bathrooms, they look better than ever. The crew was great about covering floors and areas where dust or paint drips could fall. They asked good questions and took care of all concerns. We will have them back - more to do in an older house."

"Allure Interiors handled a complete rehab of my lower living space that suffered some water damage from a sump pump failure. He came in after the water and asbestos remediation and repaired the drywall so that you can’t see the repair. He then proceeded to complete the floor using tile and vinyl plank flooring. Finished up by painting the area. All work was done on time and looks great. Nick is easy to work with and pays attention to details."

Drywall questions, answered by experts

The best way to make long, straight cuts is to use a utility knife and a T-square to score the sheet, snap along the score, and then finish the cut by cutting through the paper on the opposite side with the utility knife. If you’re making small cuts, curved cuts, or cutouts for electrical boxes or light fixtures, you can use a manual jab saw to keep costs down, but an electric spiral saw or oscillating multi-tool will get the cleanest, fastest cuts possible.

If you’re installing new drywall, you may need to skim coat the drywall first for a smooth finish and to allow the primer to adhere to the wall. It’s only necessary if there are imperfections in your drywall due to issues with the studs or improper drywall installation. If you’re refreshing existing walls, you may want to skim coat if there are imperfections across the wall. As an alternative, you can repair your drywall and sand it for a smooth finish before painting.

You should stagger drywall sheets to help prevent cracking. The joints between drywall sheets are the weak spots, so if you install drywall with seams aligned, you’ll create weak lines that run across the length of the wall and extend from floor to ceiling. But when you stagger drywall, the solid sections of panels will support the joints. This can prevent seams from cracking or separating due to fluctuating temperature and humidity, vibrations from movement inside the home, and gravity.

Costs range from $500 to $5,000, depending on damage size, labor, and finishing requirements.

You should wait at least 24 hours for drywall mud to dry before sanding or applying another coat. However, the exact drying time depends on several factors, including the thickness of the application, room temperature, humidity, and the type of compound used. Thicker layers, or projects in high humidity, may require 48 hours or more. Lightweight compounds tend to dry faster than heavier, all-purpose ones. You'll know the mud is ready when it feels completely dry and firm to the touch and has changed to a consistent light color. Sanding too early can cause smudging or gouges, so patience is essential for a smooth finish.
