"We purchased a 12' X 24' Tuff Shed and needed to prepare a base for installation. We contacted TNG Excavation and they quoted a price and came out, removed the old shed pad, laid a border with 2 x 6 pressure treated timber and installed road mix then compacted it. I took pictures of the completed job and sent them to Tuff Shed. They were so impressed, that they now use the pictures as the poster model on how to properly prepare a site. Trevor was super easy to work with too and gave me a military discount. Nicole, the Office Manager was also a dream to work with."

"Kenny did a great job of ordering our materials and making changes a** needed. He met all his time commitments. He did a good job of communicating the status of the project. He left the area clean when done. Both of his helpers were very personable and did a great job. I will recommend New Frontier Fencing to my neighbors and friends."

"Installed 150 road from main thoroughfare to well head. Retrenched and replaced 250 broken water line. Installed 250 underground PVC conduit for electrical Romex wiring from house to well head. All work approved by laudatory State plumbing inspector. Backfilled and resurfaced broken ground. Relocated large quantity of lava boulders and rocks. Conscientious, thorough, outstanding work!"

"We hired Paradise Landworks to do the excavation for our home that we were building. As a first time homebuilder, I had a lot of questions and was unsure about some phases of the project. However, Jesse was very knowledgeable and helpful. He helped get our project going and did a great job with the excavation. It made the concrete work a lot simpler with a perfectly smooth and level base to work off of and he did a great job with our backfill. He went the extra mile to remove the abundant number of rocks we have on our property. I would highly recommend and will be using them again in the future."

Excavating questions, answered by experts

The best method for digging a trench depends on the scope of the project. For a short, shallow trench (less than 2 feet deep) in light, soft soil, digging by hand may be sufficient. However, digging by hand is labor-intensive, so consider the effort required. A machine trencher is the better option for longer trenches (over 100 feet), deeper ones, or when dealing with difficult soil conditions, such as rocky or hard ground, or obstructions like tree roots. A machine can save significant time and energy in these situations.

The average cost for pool excavation is $2,500. This cost can range from $450 to $4,500, depending on the pool shape and size, time of year, and any need to move buried utilities.

When excavating for your pool, you might have to move existing utilities. You can expect to pay an additional $15 to $25 per linear foot to move gas lines. To move a septic system, it’ll cost an additional $2,000 to $20,000. A pool that is 10 feet by 12 feet averages $450 to excavate, and a 20-foot-by-40-foot pool averages $3,020.

Generally, a trenchless sewer line is worth the cost. If your old system needs replacement, trenchless sewer repair or replacement can save you thousands on excavation costs. Every homeowner’s situation is different, but this method is definitely worth it in a lot of cases.

While you can save some money by digging your own pool, you may end up paying more in construction equipment rental fees in the long run. You could, however, focus your DIY energies on lowering the cost of leveling your lawn for your pool or filling in surrounding landscaping after construction.

The best type of soil to build on is a mixture of sand and clay, known as loam soil. Loam soil has the best combination of these soil types to build a foundation on. The clay particles help with water retention, so it won’t erode like sandy soil might, and the sandy particles help with drainage, so you won’t see unsafe soil expansion or have an increased risk of leaks from water sitting against your foundation.
