"This company is very professional and showed up at the time agreed. Austin Silsby went above and beyond. I hired him to clear weeds which had grown very tall in some places. My property is about 1/2 acre, but some is gravel and some is flowerbeds. I also have a berm near the road. I hired the company to clear the bottom and sides of my property. I did not contract for the berm. Austin mowed the berm voluntarily. I am so pleased with how the property looks now. In the fall, I will have them come back to trim some trees for me."

"Just hire them. Ignore the lack of reviews. They are your best option. I hired Hope Development for a backyard overhaul with short notice and a tight budget. Without being able to reference much in the way of reviews, hiring them felt like a bit of a risk. Out of the 6 or so projects going on at my house, the yard turned out to unanimously be everyoneâ s favorite. What Hope Development was able to do based on a 20 minute consultation is a true testament to their creative abilities, vision, and expertise. From the time the job started to itâ s end, the whole crew worked diligently to see its completion. Beyond the job they were hired for, the crew was willing and happy to help around wherever needed and even completed a dump run for me which saved my tail when I was running out of time to get stuff done. I really canâ t thank these guys enough for all they did for me during a difficult and stressful time. I can just tell everyone else to hire them. Thank you guys!"

"Lou (the owner of Still Waters) is an accomplished craftsman with many years of experience in landscaping. Our retaining wall had collapsed due to poor workmanship, and he rebuilt it with a brilliant and strong design. It is beautiful and solidly constructed. He was also very fair with his pricing, coming in at a much lower cost than competing companies…He is friendly and easy to communicate with…he is one of the best people we have ever worked with, and we recommend him very highly!"

"Adam had some mechanical problems with equipment beyond his control, but he worked late and still got the job done on time. My only issue is that he could have been a little more proactive with letting me know when he was running late due to the break down. Great quality of work, explained what he was doing. Kept me in the loop during the project with updates and making sure I was getting what I expected. He suggested options to the project, but always did what I asked for."

"After getting several estimates, I asked Brett to come over to provide an in-person estimate. He sent a very reasonable estimate that included demolition and haul-away of some cement work in my backyard. He also asked if I wanted to add 2 yards (give or take) of large granite rocks along my fence line that I've been wanting to dispose of and be hauled away, for a small additional cost. He showed up on time and made quick work of the cement walkway and the fire pit area, as well as the granite rocks. Brett is a friendly, professional, and he has the skills, knowledge, and the right equipment to get the job done in a timely fashion. He cleaned up whatever mess there was, and it looks great for the next phase of my backyard renovation. I would highly recommend him and his company for any demolition needs. Here are the before and after photo's."

Excavating questions, answered by experts

Repeated freeze-thaw cycles create frozen ground conditions up to eighteen inches deep, making winter excavating work difficult. Dry summers leave unirrigated soils extremely compacted and hard. The optimal window for scheduling local professionals is April through early June, after the frost thaws but before the summer heat hardens the ground. Active water in buried laterals during the Boise irrigation season requires careful coordination with local districts to prevent flooding hazards.

Helpful?

You do not need to maintain heavy equipment for excavating work, as local professionals handle subsurface tasks. Instead, keep the Idaho 811 contact information accessible to call before any digging occurs. Maintain copies of your property plat documents and irrigation system maps to help contractors avoid damaging buried utility lines. Keep records of prior drain camera inspections to identify recurring problem areas before scheduling your next project in Boise.

Helpful?

Older homes in neighborhoods like the North End and the Bench frequently require excavating work around the foundation perimeter. Aging drainage systems fail due to clay-heavy soils expanding and contracting. You will also see frequent root intrusion into water and sewer lines near mature trees. Aging clay sewer laterals collapse over time, and retaining walls throughout the Boise foothills require subsurface repairs as they age and shift.

Helpful?

During the first two decades, excavating projects in ID involve minor grading and irrigation installations. Between twenty and forty years, foundation drainage systems fail as gravel filters clog with silty soils. By forty to sixty years, clay sewer pipes reach the end of their lifespan, and original foundation waterproofing fails. Homes older than sixty years in historic Boise neighborhoods require full perimeter drain replacements and sewer lateral replacements due to soil movement.

Helpful?

Watch for visible foundation cracks or water intrusion. Boise has an extensive residential irrigation culture that causes chronic soil saturation around foundations. You should also look for signs of differential settling, especially if your home sits on alluvial floodplain soils near the river. Repeated freeze-thaw cycles across Idaho push underground pipes and retaining walls out of alignment, which serves as a clear indicator that you need excavating work.
