"Abraham and his team, Will and Josh, did a great job of removing old insulation, sealing air leaks and adding new insulation to the attic in my 46 year old home. The old insulation was blocking air flow through the attic and this needed to be addressed, which they did. They were very professional and hard-working. Communication was excellent and everything was well explained and the process photographed. We are glad we hired Abraham for this project!"

"The installers were careful, courteous, & thorough. They left the premises clean & uncluttered. I can't wait to see the difference in our heating bill. They installed spray foam in the rim joist, a small ceiling in the basement & the walls in a crawl space."

"Abraham and his team were a fantastic help. Their service was life changing for our family. We live in a 120 year old home that had almost no insulation in the walls. Our HVAC could never keep up on cold, windy days. The last 3 winters there were times we had to go stay elsewhere as the home was too cold. Fast forward to this winter, after they completed the work we saw an immediate return. Bills went down and the home is comfortable. Heck there were times our HVAC stopped since it was so warm! They were very professional and worked around our hectic schedule. I would fully recommend them to anyone in need of insulation services."

Insulation questions, answered by experts

Inspect your home for air leaks, moisture issues, and signs of asbestos, especially in older Des Moines properties. Coordinate with your utility provider about available rebates and ensure all required mark-outs are completed. Order materials early to account for IA’s weather fluctuations. Clear access to attics and crawl spaces, and document pre-project conditions for insurance or tax credit purposes to prevent unexpected setbacks.

Helpful?

Begin by scheduling a professional energy audit to identify areas needing improvement and to qualify for IA energy efficiency rebates. Plan your insulation project during late spring or early fall to avoid extreme weather. Verify if your home’s age or project scope requires permits, and choose contractors experienced with Des Moines’ building codes and older home construction for a seamless process.

Helpful?

In Des Moines, you’ll find full-service insulation contractors, HVAC specialists for ductwork and air sealing, and general contractors for larger renovations involving insulation. Some companies focus on spray foam or blown-in insulation, while others specialize in basement and crawl space solutions suited to local foundation types. Always verify contractor registration, insurance, and recent experience with Des Moines homes for the best results.

Helpful?

High heating bills, persistent drafts, or uneven room temperatures during Des Moines winters suggest insulation may need updating. Look for settled, damp, or moldy insulation, gaps in coverage, or damaged vapor barriers. Ice dams on the roof and pest infestations are also red flags. If your insulation is over 15 years old or doesn’t meet current energy codes, consider a professional assessment.

Helpful?

Insulation upgrades in Des Moines often impact HVAC performance, electrical wiring, and ventilation. After installation, monitor for changes like increased humidity, frequent HVAC cycling, or stuffy air, which may indicate ventilation adjustments are needed. If your home has older wiring, have it inspected before adding insulation, as tightly sealed spaces can trap heat around electrical components, affecting safety and efficiency.
