AFI Insulation

DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY! SO UNPROFESSIONAL!! I hired AFI to blow insulation into the walls of my 100-year old house. I signed the work agreement and did not hear from them for 2 weeks. Finally, Darren called me and told me they could come out the next day (hardly any notice). I had to go to work but when I got back, the crew was there (Kane and another man) and they had drilled holes in my siding, which was expected, but they had filled the holes with regular styrofoam, not the caps I was promised. Kane told me thats what he was told to do. I called Darren who told me he would order the caps and install them in a few days when they came in. In the meantime, rain was in the forecast and styrofoam was supposed to keep the water out of my walls. Then the crew hit an air return and blew insulation down into my furnace. They tried to vacuum it out but a few days later, my heat wasn't working. I looked at my furnace and they had put a new air filter in, but didn't take the old one out, so it was crumpled in the blower compartment. The blower compartment and blower also had a lot of insulation in them. I called Darren and was given attitude about it, saying â so you want me to fix your furnace?â and â the insulation wouldn't cause an issue with your furnace.â I also called him because they did not insulate above my windows, which was 16â of open space in my walls. I have a lot of windows, so it was probably about 1/5 of my total wall space not insulated. When I brought it up to Darren, he told me there wasn't usually space above a window, it was all structure. This is true for an 8â ceiling with large windows that go to the ceiling, but my ceilings are 9.5â tall and the windows donâ t go up that far. I had to bring it up 3 more times as well as cut a hole in my plaster wall and send him pictures to prove there was over a foot of open uninsulated space above my windows. I requested a professional come out to inspect and clean out the furnace. Darren said he would get back to me about it but wanted me to still send payment in the meantime for a job that wasnâ t finished and had serious issues. Des Moines Heating and Cooling came to inspect the furnace but insulation was all through the blower and heat exchanger and my furnace was older. I ended up having to get a new furnace as a result! Extra money I wasn't planning on spending this year. 2 days after the furnace was installed, Darren sent his crew to finish insulating my walls, did not notify me they were coming, and had them do it without my knowledge while I was at work. The following morning, at 8am, he called me asking to come by my house and pick up payment for a job I wasn't aware was even done. Save yourself the hassle and hire someone else.

I reached the owner-operator on the first call and he was at my house to scope the job the next morning. I approved the quote and he scheduled me for the job within the week. Their team showed up first thing in the morning on the day of the job and they did a great job. They were very professional, respectful and cleaned up after themselves. I would recommend AFI to anyone in the market. These are the good guys!

This could not have gone any smoother. Despite having to re-schedule the original, 1st quoting appointment, Darren was here the very next day. I had a quote by the end of that 2nd day/appointment, was scheduled the next day for the following Monday and the 2-person team was in and out within 90 minutes. My kids didn't even wake up(granted, they could sleep thru the emergency siren!) but wow. My attic/crawl space is now fully insulated! All this while we are adjusting to our new normal of social distancing and heightened sanitary measures. I would use AFI again and would recommend them based on this experience.

They came to give an estimate which I accepted. Although mine was a relatively small job and they were busy with large jobs, they sent a crew out after hours to satisfy my timing request. They were very thorough.
