"I was really worried I would have to go a few days or even a week without cool air, but I called Dayco Systems that my friend recommended and I'm SO glad I did! They came out right away, after hours and fixed the unit. I highly recommend this company!"

"Top notch company - installed our new AC/Heating units two years ago. I was a bit pricey, but has performed flawlessly. Subsequent service calls have been reasonable and professional. Highly recommend."

"I have a Mr. Cool ductless mini split that required R410A. It is not a big unit (size of a suitcase), so did not need much to refill. Comfort Solutions was not only easy to work with, prompt on getting back to me, on time, excellent tech service, but also the best out of pocket cost to that I found after calling around in the Atlanta area. Some Heat/AC companies are just out to gouge your pockets, not this company. I will definitely call on Comfort Solutions in the future!"

"Overall positive experience, quick, professional and show up on time. Austin installed two brand new A/C for us, a split mini and a central unit. They both are working great. They removed the old units, cleaned up everything, very pleased with their work. I definitely will call again if needed. The entire staffs were great and easy to deal with from start to finish... thanks again!"

"We hired Casteel because their approach was not just to replace the failing split system heat pump with the same type of equipment, but to reconfigure the system to cure inadequacies that the builder had created (such as not enough air returns to handle the system volume and improperly rigged shortcuts to cover other flaws). I am giving only 4 stars because although the system is now running beautifully, there were issues with the installation: (1) the night of the installation, the installers could not get the unit started, so we had to spend a hot night without air conditioning; Casteel did send out a tech the next morning to fix that problem, which he did, but it bothers me that the installers did not seem to know that the solution was right there in the manual that came with the air handler; (2) after the first tech got the system running, we set the upper level (it's a tri-level townhouse) thermostat to 70, but once the temperature got to 70 the system did not shut off, even when we turned off the thermostat, so another tech had to come out and he discovered that the thermostats had been wired incorrectly to the control board so that the reason why the upper level thermostat did not shut off the system was because the upper level thermostat was actually controlling a lower level of the system -- he corrected that problem by rewiring the control board so that each of the 3 thermostats now controls the level that the thermostat is on; (3) a city inspector checked the work two weeks later and it passed the inspection, but he commented that one part of the outside tubing should be secured because if anyone were to trip on it it might pull loose and spill refrigerant all over the ground -- he said that he would advise Casteel and I also emailed Casteel to let them know, but two weeks later and the no one has come out to secure that line. Bottom line: we got a premium system for a substantially higher price, so while we are very happy with the way the system is working now, we expected a much better installation experience and quick follow up to the inspector's recommendation, because when you pay for the best, you have the right to expect the best, from start to finish."

Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

Window AC units use a fair amount of electricity, but significantly less than central AC systems. Because they are more energy-efficient for cooling individual rooms or small spaces, their usage is comparatively low. On average, a window AC unit consumes between 500 and 1,400 watts, while a central AC system uses over 3,500 watts—meaning a window unit uses about one-third of the energy. This typically translates to a monthly running cost of $15 to $40, although this can vary depending on external factors.

Running a window air conditioner unit costs about $0.06 to $0.88 per hour. Choosing the correct size air conditioner can help it run more efficiently.

You will only need to refill your AC with refrigerant if it has a leak. Otherwise, a modern, well-maintained AC will most likely never need a recharge. You may notice a leak in an older system if your bills are higher, you hear a hissing sound, or if the air is blowing out hot.

The difference between a home surge protector and an HVAC surge protector is that an HVAC surge protector is designed to protect the components inside your HVAC unit while a home surge protector is installed near appliances and meant to protect your entire home. There are three tiers of whole-house surge protectors, and they are more expensive to install than HVAC surge protectors.

High humidity is one of the most common reasons for air vents to sweat or produce condensation. When the cool, dry air from your HVAC unit meets warm and moist air in your home, it will cause condensation. Insulating your ductwork can help prevent this. If you live in a very humid region, a dehumidifier can also help.
