Reggie (and his team) has been our plumber for over a decade. He has replaced virtually all of the plumbing in our 65-year old house. He has fixed gas leaks. He has replaced the water line to our house. He is a terrific plumber. His team is experienced. They always show up. They are considerate and hard-working. His prices are always reasonable. Reggie the Plumber is highly recommended by us!
Today after not hearing anything, I called at 10 AM to see when they would be coming. They had no record of the appointment even though they remembered talking to me the week before. They apologized and said they would reschedule for early afternoon. I had a lot of things I needed to do, but I figured I could get it done after they came. Around 2:30, they still hadn't showed. I called again and they said the plumber was finishing a job at 3 and I was next. So he got there at about 3:30. They wasted my entire day basically. They get an F for punctuality.
The plumber looked at the situation and said he could either unscrew everything from the wall and screw in a new set of cutoffs and pipes or he could abandon the stuff in the wall, drill through the floor, and tie into the pipes in the crawlspace. That seemed like a pretty good idea and beat tearing into the wall. He called the office to get prices. $225 to screw into the wall or $450 to drill the holes in the floor. After 15 or 20 minutes the plumber was able to get everything unscrewed, but he didn't have the right parts. I'm not sure what was missing, but I suspect it was the shutoff valves, even though when I booked the job I said it was to replace shutoff valves. I had read on the internet that quarter-turn shutoff valves are the thing to get, so I asked if he was going to use quarter-turn valves. Yes, quarter turn. I said that they are ball valves. He said, yes, ball valve. When he came back from Home Depot (another 45 minutes), he brought the regular old multi-turn valves (not a ball valve). So I can't give a good score on responsiveness even though he came up with a very good solution and was able to do the less expensive option.
The quality of the work is quite good. The supply pipes are more elaborate than I thought with a series of sweated copper pipes and a branch off to the dishwasher line with its own shutoff. It will be easy to tie the new faucet to these. Also if I really want, I could swap out a quarter-turn valves on my own since the new shutoffs are attached with compression fittings and should just unscrew from the copper lines.
So it was a mixed bag, and maybe they just had a bad day, but I can't recommend using them.
