"We came home to our basement with couple of inches of water. The plumber was able to come that same afternoon and recommended that we replace the sump pump. During the repair, he discussed the need for maintenance on this sump pump. We enjoyed working with this plumber and will hire this company again."

"Morgan Pitman provided same day service to install a 50 gal tall gas water heater. Excellent customer service and workmanship while providing maintenance education. Old heater lasted 12 years so the cost and installation for replacement was staggering but less than competitors."

"Good company. Good experience from the time I began obtaining an estimate, until the work was completed June 2016. Prices were fair and reasonable for above-builder-grade product on 2 (Carrier Performance Series) HVAC unit replacements. They were very accommodating on meeting the timeline promised. My ONLY issue was that a bit more care could have been exercised on the install... but it was hotter than Hades, making conditions brutal! I am choosing Ragsdale to continue to service our units. I give them a A-"

"As always, the provider was prompt, thorough and completed the work in minimum time. The Keep Smiling team is always polite, attentive and will take extra time to answer any questions I might have.  I have been a customer of this company since 1999 and have never been disappointed in service or quality.  I always highly recommend them to anyone local that needs a plumbing service and continue to be a huge fan and happy for their success.

"I was hoping to see what was installed at every stage of the process. Feel a little in the dark about what is buried underneath the concrete and the process. Could not reach the sales person to ask questions after job was booked. There was confusion about what was to be done exactly. The workers were diligent and helpful wiith moving some of the junk in the basement. Job was done quickly and the areas left clean."

"Sundry's employees showed up on time and did the work that was promised in a timely fashion. My only negative was the fact that they left some muddy areas on the house and around the house that were not cleaned up. I expressed some concerns about the system that was installed and these were answered quickly to my satisfaction. I can only say that with the work that was done being located in an unseen area below my home only time will tell if it was done correctly. They do give a lifetime guaranty and they have been around for many years so I am fairly comfortable that there is some protection should things not work out."

"Very professional and willing to work with me regarding install and timing. Due to variety of trees in the area opted for micromesh gutters to minimize debris infiltration - we do have spill-over as micromesh are less efficient at collecting water but this is a tradeoff."

Sump Pump Installation questions, answered by experts

When a backflow valve fails, wastewater will flow back into your system, contaminating your drinking water. You’ll immediately notice backflow valve failure from a rotten smell and brown water coming from faucets. Get in contact with a septic pro or a plumber immediately if you suspect this has happened to you.

Yes, many providers offer warranties for new pumps and labor. Confirm terms before scheduling.

A small sump pump running infrequently uses an average of 10 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity per month. The average cost for electricity is $0.171 per kWh. The size and use frequency affect how much electricity it uses. Sump pumps average one-third to one horsepower (hp) motors. One hp is equal to 745.7 watts. Watts multiplied by the time your pump is running divided by 1,000 equals your average kWh. Multiply kWh by your average cost of electricity. In areas with high rain or a marsh basin, the average cost can be as high as $15-$25 a month.

There are several things you can do to maintain your sump pump and prevent sump pump problems. For instance, keeping a lid on your sump pit goes a long way in protecting your pump system from silt, sand, dirt, and other debris. When water drains from the outside, such as along your foundation, or with melting snow, water runoff often brings sediment with it.

Also be wary of corrosion, particularly if your sump pump system is made of metal. Keep an eye out for rust and have it inspected regularly by a plumber or sump pump technician.

Yes, it’s normal (and beneficial) to have a small amount of water in the bottom of your sump pit. It shows that your system is collecting groundwater, rain, and excess water from around your property—just like it’s supposed to. However, if the sump pit is always full, you might have a leak or a faulty sump pump.
