"Alex and his crew are extremely professional and easy to work with. Always showed up on time and kept me informed throughout the process. I had a large Laurel Oak Tree that hadn’t been trimmed in years. Harvey’s Tree Surgeons lifted the canopy that made the tree look beautiful again. Highly recommend this company. Also ground up an old stump from a previous large oak tree. Cleanup was exceptional. Thanks again Alex for the work done on our rental property."

"We hired Rowland & Sons Tree Service to grind a huge tree stump and then level the area were the stump was and we could not be more pleased with their work. They arrived on time, were very friendly, and provided excellent customer service. We had a team of three (mom, dad, and son) who worked together to get the job done. In addition to grinding and leveling we asked them to save the soil/sawdust which they did happily and placed it in containers which we provided. They saved our sod which we easily replanted. I highly recommend Rowland & Sons for this type of work."

"The quote was given on date and time promised, and they came in significantly cheaper than the two other companies with a Certified Arborist from whom I obtained quote. Work was done great, including clean-up. Would not hesitate to hire them again."

"The two trees on the side are shade blocking the sun make it difficult for any grass to grow under them. I am changing to a different more shade tolerant grass in Oct or November for that area. I had used them before to trim the trees but I never assume everything as far as licensing is the same. When you are trimming trees overhanging your house you have to be careful. They have an Arborist which is also important. I could not tell you how many people came to do the job with no current license. They left it, could not find it or it had expired. Rebecca gave me hers for her company and I checked and it was valid. She even arranged to do some minor leveling stump grinding to make it easier for the riding mower and for the grass to lie flat when I plant it in the fall and they did not even break any of my inground sprinklers. i even added my 4 palms and my Robellini. TOP CLASS WORK!"

"I called Park Trim & Haul roughly around 11 pm after a large section of a massive laurel oak tree in my front yard came down, barely missing my car and blocking my neighbor's front door (see attached photos). Mike called me back in minutes and spoke to me that night. I had two companies I found on Angie's List come by early the next morning to provide a quote, and Mike's quote was roughly half the amount of the other company, despite that they were both committing to provide identical services, including tree removal, grinding of the stump, debris disposal, and cleanup. Both companies had appropriate insurance, positive reviews online, and were certified arborists, but Park, Trim & Haul was able to do the job sooner than the other. I talked to a few co-workers who had to have trees removed and showed them the pictures of my tree, and they all agreed that the quote was a good deal. When providing the quote, Mike was direct and straight to the point, but also professional and polite. He turned in my credit card, which he found in our driveway (it was a pretty hectic day, and I dropped it when I was getting into my car). The tree was removed the very next day. The workers who helped with the tree were also polite and professional, and they were very easy to work with. Cleanup was satisfactory, and they did a great job with grinding up the tree stump. Although my address reads "St. Petersburg," I'm actually in incorporated county property. Mike realized this after giving me the quote. Because I don't live in the city limits, I do not have access to the free dump. Even though it would take income away from his profit margin, he ate the extra expense for bringing the debris to another location without complaint, which I thought was very honest. Really, about the only thing I can say that is even remotely critical is that the workers had to unscrew my mailbox from its post in order to have some extra space to work with, and they forgot to put it back when they were done. I'm sure they would have made it right if I brought it up, but it only takes a few minutes to screw back in, so I didn't care about it. I was just happy to get such good service for such a reasonable price. I'll definitely use this company for my future tree/landscaping needs and have already referred a couple friends and neighbors to them who have decided to use them."

"Michael Greenlee and his team are very professional. Michael and others on his team are firemen, so I was glad to do business with them. They removed a massive oak tree near my home and some other trees. Their quote was very competitive. They gave me the arborist report (necessary for government) and completed the large project very fast. Cleanup was perfect. I will use this company again!"

"

Called several tree service companies on Angie's list for estimates.  Needed to call/email twice to Experience Tree Service.  Once contact was made responded within 24 hours.  During the estimate process apologized for not getting back to initial call.  Asbel, owner, advised that he was having problems with voice mail calls on his business phone.

Was given an estimate of $1500.00 for the listed service.  This was over $500.00 LESS than other tree companies.  He also advised that I needed a tree removal permit, which he included in this price (other company was going to charge an additional $85.00).  I agreed to his estimate and hired him for the job.  I emailed him information for the tree permit request and he did the paperwork with the county.

On Saturday March 29, 2014 he arrived with a thee person crew and completed the work.  I asked for several other branches to be trimmed, not on original quote, and he did them at no charge.  Property was cleaned and both neighbors driveway were cleared of any possible debris.  Job took less that 1/2 day.  Great Job Asbel.

Arborists questions, answered by experts

You can trim just one side of the tree, especially when that side is growing near something like a power line or a home. Pros will carefully trim the tree back until it is safe from that structure. While this is common, it also needs to be done with the utmost care, as pruning or trimming away at one side of the tree may make it structurally unsound. This instance is yet another where hiring a pro is wise, especially if power lines are involved.

Since overwatering can harm mature trees just as much as a lack of water, it’s important to know the signs of an overwatered tree. If your tree’s leaves are yellowing, wilting, or dropping leaves, it’s likely that you’re overwatering. Other common signs include rotting, fungi, soggy soil, soft or peeling bark, falling leaves, and brittle roots.

If you realize that you’ve been overwatering your mature tree, stop watering and give the soil time to dry out. Then moving forward, increase time between watering sessions.

White vinegar does not kill ivy on trees because its acetic acid concentration is not high enough to overpower it. Vinegar is an effective herbicide for weeds and other plants, but not for the strength of most ivies, including poison ivy and English ivy. You should use an herbicide to kill ivy, such as one with glyphosate, imazapyr, or triclopyr.

According to scientists at Penn State University, spotted lanternflies do not typically kill the trees and plants they feed on, but they can cause branches and segments to die off. However, they have been found to kill cultivated grapes, which can have devastating consequences for vineyard owners and regions that heavily rely on vineyards to create jobs and generate revenue. They have also killed the Ailanthu altissima, known as the tree of heaven, though this is classified as a noxious and invasive weed tree.

There are several methods to hollow out a tree stump, and the best one depends on your tools, experience, and priorities. Common methods include using a chisel and hammer, a chainsaw, or burning.

  • Chisel and Hammer: This is often considered the easiest approach for those with limited tools or experience, though it is the most time-consuming.

  • Chainsaw: Using a chainsaw is the fastest method, but it comes with significant safety risks, especially for inexperienced users.

  • Burning: This can be an effective method, but it is not recommended unless you can first drill holes into the stump. Without holes, the stump will be difficult to light and may not burn completely through.

A power drill with at least a ⅜-inch diameter bit can make the job quicker and easier, regardless of the primary method. While you can use a chisel or chainsaw without a drill, it will require more time and effort. Always wear protective goggles and thick gloves, as splinters are an inevitable risk.
