Any of your garage shelves should be able to hold heavier loads, but it’s best to place heavier items on middle shelves. In many homes, upper cabinets are installed with a 1- to 2-foot gap between the tops and the ceiling. However, many homeowners extend their cabinets to the ceiling to gain extra storage and a polished, built-in look.

While a three-inch center-to-center handle is common, there’s no guarantee that sizing will be the same for every cabinet. Different types of handles have different sized holes to attach them and there are lots of different cabinet handle widths and styles. You should measure to be sure you know the size of a handle and to avoid surprises.

Most assemblies take 1-3 hours, but larger units or those requiring wall mounting may take longer.

While having an assistant to help ensure safety and to lend a hand is desirable, if someone isn't around to assist, you can install kitchen cabinets on your own. Normal kitchen cabinet installation starts with the upper wall cabinets. If you're working on your own, consider installing the bases first and building a temporary support structure on top of them to help you install the uppers.
