"Patrick was the first person my husband called after reading his reviews on HomeAdvisor. He came out a couple of hours after that call and completed our repair in that visit. He was courteous, efficient and knowledgeable, and we now have a competent and reliable irrigation guy when we need help with our system. We could not be happier! Thanks, Patrick!"

"They were awesome! Done in a flash-3 sprinklers re-located and 6 cut down and capped (they were not needed).. several adjusted for improved lawn watering. He installed a pop up sprinkler for me a few months back and that was a great experience as well, very knowledgeable. Highly recommend."

"Eric was on time and fixed every sprinkler head in the back yard that was broken and reconfigured the irrigation design to account for the new swing set system we had installed. He explained everything he was doing to make sure we were comfortable with the changes. We would definitely use Eric Smith again."

"Jeremy showed up at the agreed upon time and went right to work. Excellent service, very knowledgeable and a super nice guy. Jeremy and crew took extra care to maintain the lawn integrity while having to dig up the majority of the sprinkler heads in our front yard. I highly recommend Jeremy for any irrigation work you might have."

"Prior to a total landscaping project in my backyard, First Choice Lawn Care surveyed and corrected the problems with my irrigation system. They replaced heads, risers, caps, and added another sprinkler head where one was needed. Two weeks later, after the landscapers completed their overhaul, First Choice came back and made appropriate adjustments. They made sure i was happy with each adjustment before considering the job completed. Great customer service!"

Lawn Irrigation questions, answered by experts

Depending on the species, most fescue grasses thrive in USDA hardiness zones 3 through 8, though some varieties can thrive as far as zone 10. While it’s a cool-season grass, it has the unique ability to adapt and thrive in many different types of climates. For this reason, you'll mostly find fescue grasses throughout the transitional temperature zones of the country.

Whether or not grass will fill in bare spots itself depends on the type of grass you have. For example, grass with rhizomes (e.g., Bermuda grass) and stolons (e.g., Saint Augustine grass) will naturally fill in bald spots as it spreads laterally. However, clump-forming grasses will not spread.

The time you should wait before walking on new grass depends on whether you used seed or sod. If you laid new grass seed, it's best to wait about eight weeks before stepping on it, as new grass is fragile. For sod, it typically establishes itself in the ground in about two weeks. For heavy traffic, like driving a car across a new grass driveway, you might need to wait an entire season.

Yes, you should water your grass after seeding it. During the first couple of weeks after laying the seed, you should water the lawn two or three times per day for 10 to 15 minutes each session. After that, you can switch to 20- or 30-minute watering sessions every other day.

Due to its slow growth, Bahia grass does not generally take over weeds. In fact, the opposite can be true. Young Bahia grass is susceptible to being taken over by weeds.

Likewise, in the cool season, Bahia grass goes into a dormant state that can allow weeds that thrive in early spring to get the upper hand. If you want to prevent weeds from taking over your yard, remove them by hand or apply a Bahia grass-friendly pre-emergent herbicide to your lawn before weeds have a chance to appear.
