"We contacted Jimmy to paint my mother's condo before putting it on the market because we'd used him before at our house, and he did an amazing job. He came for a quote, and we let him know we'd be removing the popcorn ceiling, and he said his company did that too. We hired him for both jobs on the spot, and they did fantastic work. They were quick, and there wasn't a spot or drop out of place. They repaired some places in the ceiling with drywall, they patched a few spots on the walls, and painted the ceiling, the walls, and all the trim for a very reasonable price."

"The team did a wonderful job! I would hire them again in a moment. Marbin was responsive and knew exactly what needed to be done to finish the drywall. His team started quickly after we signed the contract. The walls look wonderful and they were able to do anything I requested to make sure the job was done correctly. Don't hesitate to hire these contractors!"

Small jobs welcome

"Amazing work on our kitchen backsplash! We have been working with PC & J for over a year on different projects in our home. They are of course highly skilled at drywall and ceiling work and they textured our walls and removed popcorn ceilings a few months ago. This latest job in our kitchen included installing a stack bond tile backsplash, which of course is an unforgiving tile pattern because you can see all the rows and columns aligned. Martin and Claudia took the time to keep everything straight even though our floors, countertops and walls were imperfect. They also installed floating shelves and the hood over the oven. Including support backing before they installed the tile. They are reliable, good hard workers and always produce amazing results. We hope to work with them again."

Drywall questions, answered by experts

Yes, any parts of drywall that are wet or overly moist will need to be replaced. Drywall is intended to be dry (it’s in the name, after all.), as excess moisture can lead to mold and mildew and eventually corrode your home’s foundational building pieces. Do regular inspections in your home to make sure all your plumbing is intact and in good condition—this will go a long way toward preventing leaks.

Whether to repair or replace water-damaged plaster depends on the scale of the damage. For small, limited areas, you can often perform a repair yourself. If you choose to paint over small patches, ensure the surface is completely dry and apply a coat of antifungal primer first to prevent mold growth. However, simply painting or plastering over the damage is only a temporary solution that doesn't address the core problem. For more extensive or long-term damage, the plaster may be compromised, and there is a risk of mold. In these cases, it is recommended to remove the damaged section of plasterboard and replace it. You may consider hiring a professional for the repair, and it's worth noting that water damage is often covered by home insurance.

Plaster itself has a higher R-value than drywall. However, there are other considerations surrounding plaster and insulation. As a general rule, it's easier to obtain consistency in insulating value and quality when working with drywall rather than plaster. Plaster walls often don't contain any insulation behind the wall covering by design, and careful evaluation is necessary when choosing to add it.

Some painters will repair minor drywall damage. For repair work of any kind, it’s a good idea to hire the professional required for the job. Many painters will have the materials on hand and can add them to the total cost. While you may save some money, there is a chance the work will be subpar compared to a professional who specializes in drywall.

Choose a drill bit that is the size of the screws of the anchors you will use. You aren’t drilling through metal or concrete—hopefully—so any standard twist, wooden or all-purpose drill bit will work fine. It’s also important to have a screwdriver capable of drilling through the drywall and into the stud. The good news is most available drills, even the older ones, can do this with no issue.
