"Mark Higgins did a super job landscaping the front of our house and front yard bed. The front of our house now has "curb appeal" thanks to his recommendations. He and his crew did a great job clearing out the old plants and installing the new ones. Would definitely hire again."

"Aldo and David did professional work for a very reasonable price. They arrived when they said they would, and their four man crew (which includes Aldo and David) finished the same day. When the sodded area was being prepared, one of the workers found my gold wedding ring that had been lost for 3 years. He returned it to my wife. How many landscapers have this amount of honesty and integrity? I will hire them for their tree services in the future as will one of my neighbors who saw their work."

"Had a beautiful tan vinyl fence installed with white posts. They sent A lot of people out to work on this 274 square foot fence. Things were done efficiently and professionally. The workers were very focused yet friendly. There is also a warranty, I would get the warranty before you pay because it takes a while to get it."

Customers say: Quality work

"We have employed Express Lawn Service for four years. We hope to have them for as long as we are in our current home. They are dependable, do a great job and are responsive to our needs. On occasion, they have noticed something that needs to be done like completing an edging job that I started but had not completed due to heat and they took a few extra minutes to complete it for me. They even, without being asked, saw a pile of debris from the last hurricane and picked it up and hauled it away. Very, very kind and considerate of the homeowners. Perfect company for an aging couple who needs help with lawn and landscape maintenance."

Small jobs welcome

"From the beginning of the project to the end they were extremely professional in every regard. I worked with Katelin and Taylor and they were both fantastic! We had sod installed in our back yard with new landscaping around the entire house and it all looks fantastic. They communicated very well through the entire project and the installers were all courteous and showed pride in their work. I would highly recommend them!"

Landscaping questions, answered by experts

The average cost for landscaping is around $3,500, but prices can range from as low as $200 for simple DIY projects to $14,000 or more for extensive work. Several factors influence the final price, including your geographic location, yard size, project scope, chosen materials, site preparation, and the type of landscaping involved. Professional landscaper labor costs typically range from $50 to $100 per hour.

For a smaller budget, you can focus on softscaping projects like adding mulch, flowers, and shrubs, which might only cost a few hundred dollars if you do the work yourself. A budget of around $5,000 could cover projects like a simple patio, new plants and tree trimming, or a water feature. More extensive hardscaping projects, such as pergolas, patios, and walkways, can push the budget to $14,000 or more. For example, a flower bed installation averages between $800 and $3,000, while landscape lighting installation can cost from $2,000 to $6,000.

While there are over 400,000 different flowering plants worldwide, there are five main types of flowers. These flower types are based on their lifecycles, giving each type a unique personality. These types are:

  • Annuals, which complete their entire life cycle within a single growing season.

  • Perennials, which the tops die off in the winter but regrow in spring.

  • Biennials, which complete their entire life cycle within two years.

  • Hybrids, which exhibit either annual or perennial behaviors depending on location

  • Flowering shrubs, which are small to medium-sized perennial woody plants, such as shrubs or evergreens.

Yes, you can absolutely transplant bushes instead of removing them completely. The success depends on the size of the bushes, their age, and the transplanting season. Ideally, transplant during the dormant season (late fall or winter). Dig out the entire root system in one piece, fill the new hole with fresh soil and mulch, and water thoroughly after planting.

If you want to take your tree-planting hobby beyond your outdoor space, here are a few great ways to do it:

  • Encourage your neighbors to participate in the Arbor Day Foundation’s Tree City USA program, which has a four-step framework that helps communities grow and maintain their own tree cover.

  • Support businesses that plant trees.

  • Lobby your local government to plant more trees around your community.

  • Donate to a tree-planting charity.

A window flower box should be deep enough that there’s room for a wide selection of plants and the required amount of soil and gravel. Standard flower boxes are 8 inches deep and 8 inches from front to back. Larger is better to increase the variety of plants in the box, but you could run into stability issues as it increases in weight.
