"On this particular job, 7 local roofing companies told me the job could not be done because of the size of the skylights and the bracing needed for the installation under the new FL building codes. Jay and his team (inc. Dan the roofer) were able to complete the job in a professional and workmanlike manner on time and on price."

"We loved working with Your Way Contractors on our basement remodel. Our basement started out as an unfinished, dirty mess and now we have the basement of our dreams that includes an entertainment space, wet bar, 1/2 bath, office, workout area, laundry room and lots of storage. Gene was great to work with, as was his son Ryan and the rest of their team. They were very responsive whenever we had questions and would always keep us updated with what was going on with the project from start to finish. We trusted that they had everything handled and they did. They went above and beyond to help us out and did everything they could to make sure it turned out exactly how we wanted it. From the start, we received detailed diagrams of the layout and were able to work with them on making the space work for us. They always showed up on time and did what they could to keep the job moving (even when we had a big delay with our tile order). We plan on working with them again when we're ready to start our next project - couldn't be happier and would definitely recommend to friends!"

"After completing a larger remodeling job for me several months ago, Joe and his assistants returned to fix a couple of other small problems in my kitchen and bathroom. They did the work quickly and efficiently, at a very fair price. I definitely would hire them again and recommend their service highly."

Basement Remodel questions, answered by experts

Since DIYing a basement remodel isn't typically advised, there are some ways that you can still save money on this project without putting yourself in danger. Some ways to save money on a basement remodel include:

  • Painting walls yourself versus including in the cost of the remodel

  • Installing light fixtures yourself

  • Choosing prefabricated fixtures, like cabinets, over custom ones

  • Choosing a budget-friendly flooring option, like laminate or vinyl flooring, and add rugs where necessary

Rebar is an essential part of reinforcing a basement floor, as not having it can impact its structural integrity. It helps absorb the tension factors that contribute to cracks in your floor and strengthens its load-bearing capabilities by evenly distributing the weight. Not including rebar could lead to an unstable floor, so don’t skip it!

Physically, the most challenging part of finishing a basement is installing egress windows or doors when the space is below ground level. Mentally, the hardest part may be envisioning the project and planning around load-bearing and mechanical obstacles.

Some older homes have toilets in the basement to combat sewage backups. This type of toilet, also known as a Pittsburgh potty, acted as a safety valve over the incoming sewer line. If a line backed up, it would back up into the toilet because it was the lowest fixture in the home, keeping it out of sight and away from the finished areas of the house.

Basement toilets were also used by workers with messy jobs, like those who worked in coal mines or steel mills. This way, they could clean up and avoid tracking dirt through their home.

Although it’s not required, air ventilation in a finished basement can help improve the air quality, prevent moisture and mold issues, keep musty odors away, and also maintain the air quality throughout the rest of your home. Proper ventilation will help maintain the value of your investment in finishing your basement. Try basement ventilation methods like installing vents or a dehumidifier for best results.
