"Art and his team did a wonderful job. Any time I have work done like this I am very nervous. Art has a calming spirit which was helpful to me. They showed up on time and were very respectful. When communication was needed Art was responsive very accommodating. They could improve their neatness by not dripping paint which was a bit of an issue. But overall they did a thorough job."

"He bid using Duration paint, used Super paint instead a cheaper paint. If you hire him, I would recommend asking if he is going to paint this and that at the start. He was not going to paint the concrete floor on the entrance to the house, although everything else was painted. After a heavy discussion about it, he agreed to paint the floor, if I bought the paint. Where I was raised, when you are going to paint the exterior of a house, you painted all the exterior, not just the walls He is a nice man, but he did not inform me of the things, he wasn't painting and he is the pro not me."

"This company did an outstanding job painting the interior rooms of our home. This included a foyer that required a 32 ft ladder! I would highly recommend Ted and Moulaison Painting."

"This is the second time I used Lozano’s Painting. This was a big job - painting a huge tall popcorn ceiling. Once again they did a magnificent job. It turned out better than I ever expected. Very professional company, and the owner Jose is a very caring person. Would definitely recommend and use again."

"Extremely happy with the job. Bluefox Painting washed the tile roof of our single-family home, pressure washed, repaired and painted the entire exterior walls, including the garage door, the exterior lamps, all the trim and the main door. The crew was here with a supervisor on time and on the day we had scheduled. We had no issues with the job nor the paint colors that were chosen. Top-notch service and quality of the job, we highly recommend them."

"They are truly professionals, caring about the most minute details of your home project. We hired them to repair stucco on our home and paint the exterior. I am very particular and often expect perfection. This husband and wife team exceeded my expectations, were reliable, trustworthy, and cleaned up after themselves. They also had a lot of patience when I was choosing colors and made great recommendations. Assunta has a good eye. I plan to hire them again to paint the interior of my house and repair and stain the concrete driveway. I have hired other painters before and been so disappointed with the quality, that I do the work myself. David and Assunta don't use spray guns so there is not paint all over the fans and fixtures. They paint the old fashioned way with brushes and rollers. Their prices were a little more than the other pros who bid the job, but they are fair, and the excellent quality and their dependability was worth it. We have found a gem and won't use any other painters."

Painting questions, answered by experts

A five-gallon bucket of deck stain will cover roughly 875 square feet in a single coat. Actual coverage will vary based on the type of wood you’re staining and the number of coats. If you plan on doing multiple coats, multiply the square footage by the number of coats to calculate how many buckets of stain you’ll need.

An exterior paint job typically lasts between 5 and 10 years, though this can range from 3 to 17 years depending on several factors. The longevity is influenced by the quality of the paint and primer, the quality of the application, the local climate, and the type of surface being painted. For example, paint on wood siding may need to be redone every 3 to 7 years, while painted brick can last up to 17 years. Aluminum siding often needs repainting every 5 years.

You can apply stain over peeling stain, but it’s not a good idea. Your old stain will get in the way of your new stain bonding to the wood, so you’re likely going to see the same issue again shortly after application. Your best option is to sand off the old stain and clean the surface thoroughly before applying new stain.

Whether to brush or roll stain on wood depends on the project and your preference. Brushing is ideal for smaller, intricate areas and offers more control over the application, ensuring thorough coverage and penetration into the wood's grain.

Conversely, rolling is efficient for more extensive, flat surfaces and can save time. However, it is not always the best fit for textured or uneven wood. Some projects may benefit from combining both methods, using a brush for detail work and a roller for broader areas. Ultimately, the choice between brushing and rolling depends on the specific requirements of your staining project.

You shouldn't paint a metal fence. Painting doesn't necessarily damage a corrugated metal fence, but these types of fences are meant to flex, and paint can easily chip and break off. Latex paints can address this issue, but those tend not to be very weather-resistant. Certain paints can trap moisture in the corrugation, which can rust the metal and lead to corrosion. And finally, if you paint a copper fence, it won't patina, which is one of the main reasons people buy copper.
