"I’ve been working with Alex for over 20 years. Have no regrets. He’s the best Drywall guy I’ve ever known. Believe me when I tell you.I used to run a drywall company . I’m a general contractor now I’ve been building houses for the last three years and I don’t give my work to anyone else. If you’re not hiring Alex, you’re making a mistake."

"Abba Drywall Home Repairs, a small family run business, responded quickly to our Angi List request and set up an appointment for the following day to see and estimate the drywall repair work that we needed done. We were provided with a professional Estimate and Independent Contractor Agreement that were explained to us. The crew arrived as scheduled, on time daily; and the floors, counters, and furniture were covered and protected before any work was started. Each day they cleaned up and took away the trash. The workers were considerate of our needs and worked with us as they efficiently completed the repairs. The quality of their skillful repairs was excellent. They did an amazing job on all aspects of the repairing and painting of the walls and ceiling that were contracted to be done. The paint color matched perfectly. We highly recommend Abba Drywall Home Repairs and would definitely contract them again should we need repairs in the future."

"Recommended by a friend. Just moved here from Washington and decided that some rooms could use some new paint. Casey helped me out with extreme professionalism and really nailed the color selection that we were looking for. The painting process was incredibly seamless and painless, the rooms look great. If anyone asks me for interior painters I’m definitely sending them to HR Drywall and painting. Thanks again Casey and the crew ~Jeb"

Drywall questions, answered by experts

The amount of drywall you need for a 1,000-square-foot basement depends on the ceiling height, angles, number of doors and windows, and more. To find the wall square footage, multiply the width and height of each wall, minus any gaps from windows or doors, and add the totals together. You’ll also need enough drywood nails or screws to install the drywall correctly.

Drywall texture refers to the techniques used on the surface of drywall to create a pleasing visual or tactile effect. Depending on your desired outcome, drywall texture can range from incredibly subtle to a focal point of a room. Textures play a significant role in interior design and are an excellent and relatively cost-effective way to change the feeling of a room.

Drywall anchors won’t work on plaster. Instead, they will more than likely cause more damage and pull out the plaster. The best type of anchors to use on plaster walls are the ones that will bite into the surrounding area, such as molly bolts and toggle bolts. Masonry anchors with expanders on the sides also work for lighter pictures.

If the holes in the plaster are small, you can fill them with layers of patching plaster until they’re filled. After it dries, you can sand the plaster and paint over it. If the hole is much larger, consider using bonding plaster first and then a layer of patching plaster, completing the process with sanding and a layer of paint.

All plaster walls will crack over time due to normal house settling and expansion and contraction from temperature and moisture changes. Small, thin hairline cracks are generally not serious and are mostly a cosmetic issue. However, larger or more significant cracks can indicate structural problems.

Here's how to tell the difference:

  • Cosmetic Cracks: Cracks that are 0.5 cm (0.2 inches) or thinner are typically cosmetic.

  • Structural Cracks: Cracks wider than 0.5 cm, excessive or deep cracks, multiple cracks in the same area, or cracks that span around corners can signify a structural or foundation issue. Cracks along the joints where walls meet the ceiling also warrant attention.

For cracks wider than 0.5 cm, structural repair is needed. If a crack is 2.5 cm (1 inch) or wider, or if you notice any signs of a structural problem, it is best to contact a plaster repair professional to assess the damage.
