"Clifford made time during the end of his work day to help us move out our refrigerator so we could place fans to dry water that wet the drywall behind the refrigerator. Then He assessed the degree of damage, informed us about the reasons he didn’t think it needed replacement (drywall dried out & no standing water left between the floor & wall). He helped us put the refrigerator back. Clifford is conscientious, articulate, & honest. I highly recommend him!"

"5-Star Review for Bears Legacy Homes LLC I recently hired Bears Legacy Homes LLC for a full home remodel, including drywall repair and interior painting, and I couldn?t be more impressed with their work. From start to finish, their team was professional, punctual, and highly skilled. They took the time to understand my vision, offered helpful suggestions, and executed everything flawlessly. The drywall work was seamless ? you can?t even tell where the repairs were made ? and the painting looks absolutely beautiful. Every detail was handled with care, and the job site was kept clean and organized throughout the process. What really stood out was their dedication to quality and customer satisfaction. Bears Legacy Homes LLC takes pride in their craftsmanship, and it shows in the final result. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for top-notch remodeling, drywall, or painting services. "They came out, gave us a quote & explained what they would do & how long it would take. We scheduled the work & they came out, an hour late, but the they did complete the job in 2 1/2 hours. We are satisfied & would recommend them to anyone needing drywall repair. They are a family business & we prefer to support a small company."

"We had just completed an asbestos removal for our office in Chicago and they took our baseboards, resulting in me needing to find a fast solution. Simon was super communicative, efficient, and got the job done the day after I submitted the request to Angi's List. The work he completed was great, baseboards look awesome, and he went out of his way to touch up our drywall with some paint."

Drywall questions, answered by experts

Drying alone can take 1 to 4 hours to dry to the touch per plaster layer, but some types of plaster take several hours longer to dry. However, this doesn’t mean the job is done because plaster doesn’t fully harden until it cures, which can take a few days to a couple of weeks. It may take even longer if you’re building a new, pretty thick plaster wall. Allow the plaster to cure before painting it.

It is possible to apply plaster on the interior or exterior of your home, but we don’t recommend it. Plaster is easy to apply in theory, but in reality, it can be a challenging material to work with, and it’s difficult to get the finished product to look clean, even, and smooth. Many DIYers end up calling in a professional afterward to touch up the area or even redo it entirely because of mistakes they made in the process. Hiring a plaster pro will cost more, but it’s usually the best option to achieve high-quality results.

Certain drywall textures, like sand and sometimes popcorn, can be smoothed by applying skim coats, sanding the walls, or chipping away the texture. However, it’s worth considering removing the texture and starting with a blank canvas. Smoothing textured walls requires a lot of sandpaper and elbow grease and can take longer than just outright removing the texture.

Whether to repair or replace water-damaged plaster depends on the scale of the damage. For small, limited areas, you can often perform a repair yourself. If you choose to paint over small patches, ensure the surface is completely dry and apply a coat of antifungal primer first to prevent mold growth. However, simply painting or plastering over the damage is only a temporary solution that doesn't address the core problem. For more extensive or long-term damage, the plaster may be compromised, and there is a risk of mold. In these cases, it is recommended to remove the damaged section of plasterboard and replace it. You may consider hiring a professional for the repair, and it's worth noting that water damage is often covered by home insurance.

You may need to replace drywall because of smoke damage. If the drywall is covered in soot, you may be able to clean it, but it will require a lot of time and effort. You could spend hours cleaning the drywall only to find there is more damage and it needs to be replaced anyway. It’s usually easier and safer to remove the smoke-damaged drywall and replace it.
