"We give O'BRIENS DRYWALL the highest recommendation. Our project was THE job from hell for any drywall contractor: A renovation (2500 sq/ft), whole house, including extensive patchwork and repair to vaulted ceilings and 14' Cupola, owner-promised drywall to be installed on walls not completed by owner as intended; foam encased block walls imparing adhering/ installation; need to match existing sheetrock and orange peel; all for a seamless, smooth absolutely perfect finish -- as required by me. It was delivered. Jerry is honest, fair and committed to excellence. Our job required him to be flexible, to add work, do work differently than he originally intended, all the circumstances that usually create conflict and disruption. His only stated concern was that we be pleased with his work and his actions evidenced he meant what he said. I will use O'Briens Drywall again."

Customers say: Quality work

"They did an exceptional job professionally installing drywall and Durock. The job was a rebuild after a water/mold remediation situation. They rebuilt what had been previously removed. Their work included rebuilding portions of 23 walls and 2 ceiling areas, repairing ceiling and wall areas around rebuilt electrical wiring, and miscellaneous damaged areas (holes, etc.). Their work was very professionally completed and ready to paint, with no visible seams remaining, texture restored to match surrounding areas (orange peel on walls, popcorn ceiling). Great job, I would hire again."

"They were absolutely fantastic. They are honest. The workers have to do the actual lining down of the countertops. Their repairs were tended to impeccably before they started the work. They rounded the hard edges. They removed a cutting board. They did all kinds of things for me. I would highly recommend the company to anyone needing countertop work. Their costs were at least 75% less expensive than an installation of marble or stone countertops."

Drywall questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can apply new plaster over an existing plaster surface, such as a wall or ceiling, provided the old plaster is in good condition. Before you begin, check the stability of the existing plaster. The surface must be clean, free of loose material, and have no peeling paint. It is also recommended to roughen the surface slightly to promote adhesion. For older plaster, applying a base coat like a PVA emulsion or a specific bonding agent or primer is crucial. This step makes the existing plaster less porous and ensures the new and old layers adhere properly for a smooth, long-lasting finish.

Yes, you can put paneling over textured walls. Of course, this will come down to personal preference and the type of paneling you want to install. From board-and-batten to shiplap and wainscoting, there are plenty of options to choose from.

If you're comfortable hanging drywall yourself, you may be comfortable finishing it. But it's worth noting that finishing drywall adds several steps to the process and a lot of waiting time. Hiring a drywall installer may be the way to go if you'd rather spend your time doing other things or are nervous about leaving a rough surface.

If you already have plaster walls and ceilings, adding new plaster costs $2 to $10 per square foot. For an average-sized room, that would come out to $1,200 to $10,000. However, the cost to replace plaster with drywall is higher—running between $720 and $1,250 for a 10-by-8-foot wall or ceiling (not including drywall finishing).

Yes, applying a texture can hide minor imperfections and irregularities in drywall, but it will not cover significant damage like nail marks or screw holes. The best texture depends on the size of the flaws. For minor imperfections, popular choices like orange peel, sand, or popcorn texture are effective. For larger imperfections, you may need a more prominent style, such as a knockdown or trowel finish, to conceal them effectively.
