"My project was a front door that needed quite a bit of repairs. Nahoom showed up on time, was very detailed as to how he would repair it and the materials involved, including matching paint. He did a superb job. The door is even better than before it was broken. The result exceeded my expectations."

"I would like to recognize employee Doug A at SafeStreet/ADT. We’ve had an old security system sitting in our house for over 15 years without service or functionality. He took the time to explain the differences between how the old systems work and how the new systems work. He was patient with us, and we are happy customers."

"I purchased an Angie's List offer from Alpha Lock & Key and within an hour I got a call back from locksmith and would be at my place after he finished his current job. So within a couple hours he arrived at my house and I was very pleased with his responsiveness since I just called the same day. I showed him the digital lock I bought and he was quite familiar with it, but I also showed him the door it was to be installed. I couldn't do it myself because I didn't have the drill bit and apparatus to increase the size of the hole in the door for the lock. Danny had all necessary tools in his van and went to work right away. Within 20 mins he had the hole drilled bigger and the new lock installed. It was a different digital lock than I was use to so Danny walked me through how to program my new lock code. It was simple. Because of the service voucher I purchased, my job didn't cost anything extra so I was happy I got it. I would highly recommend Alpha Lock & Key for responsiveness, value, workmanship, and professionalism. I would definitely trust them with my locksmith needs in the future."

Locksmiths questions, answered by experts

Expect to pay between $50 to $200 if you hire a locksmith to change your locks. That figure includes labor and the cost of basic hardware. The cost will naturally be higher if you plan to install more expensive locks, like smart locks, and if you need a lot of them.

Homeowners can save money by replacing locks themselves. A typical rekeying kit costs about $10 to $25. The only additional cost is purchasing new house keys, and those are no more than a few dollars per key. If you want to replace the locks on your own completely, the main cost is the price of the locks themselves. A standard knob-style lock starts around $25, while electronic locks and smart locks will run in the hundreds of dollars. The only additional tools you should need are a tape measure, screwdriver, and screws if they are not already provided.

Keyless locks are great for convenience, letting you unlock doors with a code or your phone so you don't need to carry keys around. They also often come with helpful features like temporary codes for guests. On the downside, they can be more costly up front and do require batteries that will eventually need replacing. If you value ease of use and additional security features, keyless locks are worth the investment.

Costs depend on lock type, service complexity, labor, emergency availability, and whether security system integration is needed.

One of the best tools for removing a stripped bolt is a handy pair of locking pliers. Locking pliers can usually grip onto screws with a broken, rounded, or stripped head and lock in place so that you can loosen even the most stubborn bolt that would otherwise remain hopelessly jammed.

If you’re having an issue turning the key inside a lock, chances are there is dust or dirt buildup within the cylinder. The easiest solution is applying a dry lubricant to the lock, which loosens the dirt buildup. You may need to turn the key a few times for it to work properly again.
