"On 9/17/23 I had to use the service of Preferred Locksmith, LLC because while I was out of town, my camera captured an image of someone in my condo who had entered using a key. On two prior occasions I came home and suspected that someone may have been in my condo but I was unsure so I installed cameras, and sure enough the stupid culprit returned. At 2:30 AM, Preferred Locksmith Service, LLC came to my condo and changed the dead bolt in a few minutes. Josh, the owner, was very professional and efficient. It was clearly obvious that he was a professional. He even brought his 10th grade son along who he is training to follow in his footsteps. I truly appreciate the excellent service that Preferred Locksmith provided and I heartily recommend their services to everyone who needs a locksmith."

"Very nice but the job was a little more difficult than expected so they jumped from $90 to. $220 to change my locks. We eventually agreed on $150 which is competitive with the other locksmith companies"

"My project was a front door that needed quite a bit of repairs. Nahoom showed up on time, was very detailed as to how he would repair it and the materials involved, including matching paint. He did a superb job. The door is even better than before it was broken. The result exceeded my expectations."

"I called Alarm Protection Group AFTER my office was burglarized. Now I feel SAFE. William is great to work with. He's neat and tidy, prompt, presentable - not a butt-crack type of guy, and he doesn't leave a mess in his wake. He's also knowledgeable about the equipment and only uses high-quality products."

Locksmiths questions, answered by experts

Rekeying a lock changes the internal mechanism so that a new key works, while replacing a lock involves swapping out the entire hardware. Rekeying is a good, cost-effective option when you want to ensure old keys no longer work, such as after moving into a new home or losing a key. It's also ideal if you want to keep your existing lock hardware. You should opt to replace the locks entirely if you want to upgrade to a more secure or different style of lock, if the current lock is old or damaged, after a break-in, or if too many copies of the old key exist.

Whether or not keyless door locks are safe and trustworthy depends on the visibility of the programming code—and a trespasser’s determination. Even if you carefully guard entry and programming codes, those trying to break in may be able to crack open the lock’s faceplate with a screwdriver and change the codes. The same goes for manual models.

Some find smart locks the safest option because it’s harder to manipulate codes without access to your phone. But it’s possible to get hacked even then. Consider installing an extended security system, like door and window alarms or surveillance cameras, to enhance security.

Rekeying door locks yourself costs a fraction of what you would expect to pay a locksmith. On average, it costs between $50 to $100 to hire a local locksmith to rekey your house, though labor costs may vary based on where you live. For a DIY solution, you can expect to spend $11 to $25 on a rekeying kit.

The benefit of deadbolt locks is that they're much harder to force open than simple locks with pin tumbler mechanisms, so they may offer added security. This feature is why many locksmiths recommend deadbolts for home security. For many households, this added protection and peace of mind is well worth the cost of installing a deadbolt.

You can cut a door knob off using a sawzall, but you risk causing additional damage to the door itself. You’ll also need to completely replace the door knob, costing you extra money and another trip to the hardware store.
