"I went with the solid surface shower with a glass barn door and then for the bath of my kid I had just a liner put on top. It broke some of the tiles this can happen but just one tile. It would have caused far more damage if I had completely replaced the tub. The installer went and bought me the same tile and reinstalled the one that broke, which I thought was amazing of him since tile work is not what they do. This brings me to this solid surface bathroom. Omg!!! It looks just like tile. I had never seen anything like this before! It is now so simple to clean the shower walls and floors, and I did not have to sacrifice the style of my bathroom!! I love the tile look, but I hate grout and it is not waterproof. Anyone who sees my bathroom now thinks it is tile. The barn door shower glass is gorgeous too. It all looks so modern and classy, and we get so many compliments. They worked all weekend to make sure it got done right and on time. The guys were just absolutely amazing. I cannot recommend them enough!"

"We recently completed a renovation of 2 bathrooms in our home, as well as many other details and changes of light fixtures, flooring, painting, door hardware and more. We hired Villas Construction as they were recommended by our design firm. The whole project took many months as we had various projects for the Villas team to complete. They did every project to perfection. The entre team managed by Nelson were incredibly professional, always on time, worked long days, and were not satisfied unless every detail was perfect. They would work on each area until every detail was exact. They stayed within budget and communicated well throughout the process. John Villa always made himself available as did the whole team. We are extremely happy with their work and craftsmanship. They created built-ins for an office and custom cabinetry and floating shelves for the two bathrooms. Their work is perfection! They are professionals in every way, and we would absolutely hire them again for future projects. We cannot recommend the entire team highly enough!"

"Ron is AMAZING!! He was honest enough to let me know I really do not need to replace the door, he would be able to fix the part!! Where do you ever in these days find honesty like that!! He arrived on time even called me when he was close to let me know. If I ever decide to replace my door he will be the one to do it without a doubt! I so appreciate him for his honesty and workmanship. Anyone looking for this type of work must call him, you will not be disappointed. I will be calling him again for any other glass needs. Thank you Ron."

Bathtub Replacement questions, answered by experts

Labor is the most expensive part of a bathroom remodel. If you’re doing a major remodel, structural changes (such as moving walls) and plumbing reconfiguration can be costly. For a standard remodel, the big-ticket items include tiles and new tub or shower fixtures.

Bathtub and shower liners come in different colors, so make sure you select one to match the rest of the bathroom. Hire a local bath liner installer for the job since they have the expertise, tools, and materials to install it correctly. Request at least three quotes from various contractors and compare their rates and services.

There are several ways to save money on a bathroom remodel through proper planning and savvy design strategies. To reduce costs, consider the following:

  • Purchase your own materials: Buy your own bathroom fixtures, hardware, and other materials to avoid contractor upcharges and delivery fees.

  • Shop smart for big-ticket items: Save on pricey items like tiles and tubs by shopping sales and at discount stores.

  • Avoid major layout changes: Keep plumbing in its current location. Opt to replace fixtures rather than moving them to avoid significant renovation work.

  • Focus on high-impact, low-cost updates: Make affordable but impactful smaller changes, such as upgrading hardware, installing new lighting, and adding stylish but economical accessories.

  • DIY where possible: Handle easier parts of the remodel yourself, like painting or installing light fixtures, to save on labor costs.

  • Time your remodel strategically: Consider remodeling in the spring, which tends to be a lower-demand time of year and may result in lower costs.

You should consider replacing your bathtub if the tub—or any potential refinishing—is older than about 20 years old. However, acrylic and fiberglass bathtubs have a shorter lifespan (about 10 to 15 years). You may decide to replace your bathtub sooner if there are stains or mold you can’t get rid of, no matter how much you clean it, or if you find leaks and cracks that could lead to costly water damage.

If your bathtub is in overall good shape with minor scratches, discoloration, or just general wear and tear, it's best (and less expensive) to refinish it.

If your tub has large cracks, is leaking, or is otherwise severely damaged, we recommend replacing it with a new bathtub. Refinishing a bathtub can only fix superficial problems, so these issues will still be present or reappear after a refinishing.
