"I went with the solid surface shower with a glass barn door and then for the bath of my kid I had just a liner put on top. It broke some of the tiles this can happen but just one tile. It would have caused far more damage if I had completely replaced the tub. The installer went and bought me the same tile and reinstalled the one that broke, which I thought was amazing of him since tile work is not what they do. This brings me to this solid surface bathroom. Omg!!! It looks just like tile. I had never seen anything like this before! It is now so simple to clean the shower walls and floors, and I did not have to sacrifice the style of my bathroom!! I love the tile look, but I hate grout and it is not waterproof. Anyone who sees my bathroom now thinks it is tile. The barn door shower glass is gorgeous too. It all looks so modern and classy, and we get so many compliments. They worked all weekend to make sure it got done right and on time. The guys were just absolutely amazing. I cannot recommend them enough!"

"We hired John and his crew to completely remodel 3 bathrooms that had not been touched since the 1960’s! This was far from a simple remodel as all the plumbing was out of code and there were water main issues in the building. John dealt with the building management and was our advocate in every way. As I began to realize what John could accomplish we also had him turn an extra room into a new custom glamour closet based on his fantastic recommendations, put in a new glass slider in the master and repaint almost the entire condo as well as replace and correct some of the lighting. The work is beautiful and high quality. John and his crew are extremely professional and take great pride in their work. If something isn’t right, John will make sure its corrected. He will keep sending the team back until its perfect. Can’t say enough about John’s commitment and dedication to his work and reputation. I highly recommend and we will use him for future projects. Thank you, John! It was a great experience working with you and your crew."

Bathtub Replacement questions, answered by experts

The order of your bathroom renovation should prevent damage to the completed work. Start with demolition and removing the old fixtures. Then, address structural repairs or water damage, if needed. Next, tackle the rough-in phase for plumbing and electrical work, install waterproofing, and work on wall treatments like tile or paint. Install your shower or bathtub, toilet, vanity, and sink. Flooring goes in after major fixtures but before the toilet. Lastly, install new lighting fixtures, mirrors, and other finishing touches as desired.

Completing a full standard bathroom remodel offers the best value, with an average return on investment (ROI) of 70%. However, you don't need a full remodel to make an impact. To maximize value, focus on key components like flooring, the tub and shower, vanity, and cabinets. High-value upgrades include installing a walk-in shower, resurfacing a tub, retiling, or expanding the shower. For more budget-friendly options that still increase value, consider repainting with a light, neutral color, or updating the mirror and light fixtures. It's also crucial to address any necessary repairs, such as leaks, mold, or cracked tiles, as buyers will notice these issues. Avoid flashy upgrades like bathtub jets or steam showers, which don't add as much value.

While Medicare will pay for some bathroom modifications, it won’t pay for all modifications done to help make the room more accessible for older adults. Plus, the improvements must be approved in advance, or they won’t cover the upgrade. Check well in advance of construction if you have coverage for grab bars, walk-in tubs, wider doorways, higher toilets, and more.

A standard bathtub can be used for soaking, but they tend to be shallower (between 15 and 18 inches deep). A soaking tub is designed to be deep enough to totally submerge yourself in the water (about 20 and 24 inches deep). Additionally, most soaking tubs are freestanding, while regular bathtubs come in various styles with drop-in, surround, and wall-mounted options available.

It is possible to install a two-in-one unit that has both a shower and a walk-in tub so you can still have both in smaller bathrooms or provide a showerhead for those in the household who prefer taking showers. You’ll hear these referred to as walk-in tub and shower combo units. Keep in mind that these combo units can take up more space than a standard shower or tub, and you’ll most likely need to hire a pro to install one.
