"I liked that you always got someone on the phone when you called and they stuck to their word. They came when they said they would. We thought we would have a problem when one of the workers made a hole in our ceiling, but they came back to fix it when they said they would be coming and you can’t even tell the difference. Quality workmanship! I would definitely re-hire if I needed to."

"After waiting half a day for the company to show up as per appointment, I received a call from the company advising me that their electricians would not be able to come until the following day. When they did show up the next day, the first thing they did was install the recessed ceiling light; unfortunately, despite my prior instructions to the company regarding the preferred color scheme, the recessed light installed proved to be the wrong color. The appropriately colored fixture was replaced later that day as were the two wall switches. I subsequently received an invoice for the work performed which struck me as excessive. I checked with an independent electrician thereafter and was advised that given the scope of the work done I had been overcharged approximately $120.00, if not more."

"This is about the 4th time we've used Carl to work in our home. He can do anything. He built an outside deck, removed all the wood from our kitchen & rebuilt electrical fixtures including installing ceiling lights. He picked up all the necessary materials was prompt, courteous, honest , professional & a pleasure to work with. Everything he did was excellent. We will always use Carl when we need work a in our home.

"I'm not complaining. The ONLY reason I'm reviewing is to remind customers to confirm whether a company offers free estimates that will greatly impact the total cost of a small job and make them feel locked in to hire. It's a cost to factor and since I like to "shop around," I wrote Reliable Power to get a rough, ball-park estimate for simple ceiling fan installation. The office promptly messaged me back and a pleasant & knowledgeable lady explained why they always require the customer to pay for a visit to estimate this simple job. I do understand this is company policy though it makes it near impossible to compare prices. Again, if I paid for an estimate, I'd feel like I'd made an investment and pressured to go with the company - regardless of whom. Another thing - I could send photos for such basic work, and would rather get a minimum price with a contract stipulation that the end price may be higher based on time spent, etc."

Ceiling Fans questions, answered by experts

For a 12x12 room, a fan between 36" and 50" will work, as it falls in the range for spaces up to 144 square feet. These size fans provide adequate air circulation and ensure a comfortable environment without being overpowering. Even better, they come in a broad range of styles, offering aesthetics and functionality, making them suitable choices for maintaining an ideal room temperature and enhancing overall comfort.

Generally, a ceiling fan should be mounted at least seven feet from the floor in the center of your room with a wall clearance of around 18 inches. If your ceiling is more than eight feet high, it’s recommended by experts that the ceiling fan be mounted around eight to nine feet from the ground. This helps ensure a better quality of circulated airflow.

The direction your ceiling fan spins helps create comfortable airflow in your home and can also help cut down on energy costs.

During summer, your ceiling fan should spin counterclockwise. This will push cooler air downward in a column and help lower your room’s air temperature. In the winter, set your ceiling fan to spin clockwise and at the lowest speed setting. This will pull cool air upwards, displacing the warm air that pools towards the top of your ceiling and bringing it down towards the floor.

The most efficient ceiling fan height is 8 to 9 feet from the floor to the fan blades. For ceilings higher than 9 feet, a downrod can be used to lower the fan to the optimal height. This positioning ensures adequate air circulation and maximizes the cooling effect. Remember, fans should be installed at least 7 feet above the floor for safety.

Hiring an electrician to install a new ceiling fan may be the best course of action. Installing a ceiling fan requires basic electrical and mechanical knowledge. It also requires holding it up with one hand and in an awkward position, making the installation even more difficult. If you’re uncomfortable with these circumstances, your best bet is to hire a professional.
