"After submitting my quote on homeadvisor, I immediately received a phone call from Tim who came out right away and provided a free estimate after almost an hour of diagnosing my electrical issue. Courteous, friendly and with reasonable pricing, he came out to complete the work the following work day and provided great, high quality work. Will definitely hire Smarthome Solutions for future electrical work."

"Dealing with Elcon Electric was truly a pleasure. First, the scheduling department had John come to our home at a time that was convenient to us. He arrived as promised and clearly ran through the estimate, permitting process and FPL's involvement. He went on to mention that it would likely be necessary to cutout a portion of the drywall that we would be responsible for replacing. Fortunately, the additional cutout was not required. Over the course of the next several weeks, the scheduling and permitting department kept us informed of the estimated installation date. Once confirmed, Roman, the electrician, arrived as scheduled, performed the installation flawlessly and left our home in perfect condition with a brand new electrical panel. Would definitely hire again and recommend to our friends and relatives."

"I put in a request for a service call for one of our properties that that we manage. Mike with Blue Phase Electric called me back within minutes and informed me that he will be out there to look at the issue within an hour. I was shock on how fast and professional Mike and his company is. He called me after his diagnosis and informed me on what the problems where and recommended his fix to the issue at a great price. "I am very impressed with Josh. He was nice enough to come out to our home on a Sunday evening to investigate a control panel issue. He quickly diagnosed the problem. The breaker responsible for our air compressor had burned out. He ran over to Home Depot and picked up the breaker which he then installed. His pricing is reasonable and his work impeccable! I highly recommend him for your electrical services you may need!"

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can get shocked while using a multimeter if:

  • You touch the metal tip while testing a live current.

  • The meter isn’t properly rated for the voltage.

  • The meter picks up on transient voltage that’s above the range you’ve set.

  • The meter has defective parts.

You can prevent shock and personal injury by using a multimeter properly and maintaining your device.

If you’re unsure how to use a multimeter or want help with your project, contact a local electrician to get the job done.

Timers work by using an internal switch to turn power on or off to the cord plugged into it. Just the same way that a light switch turns lights on and off, the timer throws the switch at the programmed times.

A ceiling light will usually have two or three wires: black, white, and sometimes green. Black wires are positive, or hot, while white wires are negative, or neutral. The green wire is the grounding wire.

When you’re wiring the light, connect black to black, white to white, and green to the grounding screw.

Regular inspections, avoiding circuit overloads, and updating wiring when needed help maintain efficiency.

Burnt outlets can be caused by things such as faulty wiring, loose connections, or a circuit overload—and yes, they are extremely dangerous. If you notice your outlet is hot or has burn marks, you should shut off the power to it from the circuit breaker and immediately call an electrician.
