Courteous, friendly and with reasonable pricing, he came out to complete the work the following work day and provided great, high quality work. "Dealing with Elcon Electric was truly a pleasure. First, the scheduling department had John come to our home at a time that was convenient to us. He arrived as promised and clearly ran through the estimate, permitting process and FPL's involvement. He went on to mention that it would likely be necessary to cutout a portion of the drywall that we would be responsible for replacing. Fortunately, the additional cutout was not required. Over the course of the next several weeks, the scheduling and permitting department kept us informed of the estimated installation date. Once confirmed, Roman, the electrician, arrived as scheduled, performed the installation flawlessly and left our home in perfect condition with a brand new electrical panel. Would definitely hire again and recommend to our friends and relatives."

"I am very impressed with Josh. He was nice enough to come out to our home on a Sunday evening to investigate a control panel issue. He quickly diagnosed the problem. The breaker responsible for our air compressor had burned out. He ran over to Home Depot and picked up the breaker which he then installed. His pricing is reasonable and his work impeccable! I highly recommend him for your electrical services you may need!"

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Often, you can add extra breakers to an electrical panel. A new breaker can help with new appliance needs, and it’s a common solution when finishing an attic or basement. However, adding extra breakers can’t bring in more amps to your house, so you still need enough amp service to power everything in total.

When shopping for a multimeter to handle this job, make sure you purchase one that is able to test for capacitance. While most multimeters offer this function, some do not. You shouldn’t have to spend a lot of money to find the right multimeter. There are models that can perform this test that cost as little as $10.

Buying a house with aluminum wiring requires careful consideration due to potential fire risks. Ensure a thorough inspection by a licensed electrician to assess the condition and identify necessary safety upgrades—factor in these additional costs when deciding. While it may not be a total deal-breaker, understanding the risks and required maintenance is necessary. Also, you should consult your insurer about coverage for homes with aluminum wiring to know whether the house is insurable.

Yes. You should always turn off the power to the work area before beginning, use a voltage tester to ensure it’s off, and wear protective gear, such as insulated gloves or safety glasses, to prevent risk of injury. Proper wiring and grounding techniques are also necessary to make sure the job is done right the first time and won’t harm any future homeowners.

Yes, dehumidifiers use a lot of electricity. However, proper humidity also means your home’s temperature remains more stable, thus lowering heating and air conditioning bills. The good news is you shouldn’t need to use a dehumidifier more than a few months per year, so the energy costs won’t be as noticeable as other larger appliances.
