"Oscar was very friendly and professional, showed up on time, and provided an honest price. The project was to finish drywall and install vinyl flooring for a children's playroom, in a small area underneath stairs."

"Santiago and his team were amazing. I noticed the drywall on my ceiling was beginning to cave in due to water damage. I called Instacure and that day Santiago gave me a very honest assessment of what needed fixing. The next day him and his team not only completely redid the dry wall of my room but he treated all the black mold that was starting to form. They work both fast and diligently. Very very nice people too! Cannot reccomend highly enough!"

"Diego gave a fair price and we hired him popcorn ceiling removal, drywall repair, and painting. The team did a great job, took a little longer than expected to complete the work, but will definitely hire again in the future. Customer service is excellent!"

Drywall questions, answered by experts

Although they are used for similar tasks, spackle and joint compound are not the same. Joint compound, also known as drywall mud, consists of limestone and gypsum and is primarily used for large-scale projects like taping and finishing seams on new drywall. Spackle is composed of gypsum and binding agents, making it a thicker compound best suited for small wall repairs like filling nail holes or cracks, as it dries quickly and is easy to sand. For small repairs, either product can be suitable. However, you can use joint compound for small jobs in place of spackle, but you cannot use spackle for large-scale taping and mudding projects.

You should leave a gap between drywall sheets because they naturally expand and contract along with the building framing as temperature and humidity change. Most pro drywall installers leave a gap of about ⅛ inch between drywall sheets, allowing the sheets to expand, contract, and shift without cracking or becoming damaged. If you don’t leave enough gaps between slabs, the edges will press against each other when they expand, and the pressure can cause visible cracks.

To maintain plaster walls, inspect them regularly for cracks and seal them early. Clean the walls by dusting regularly or using a gentle, damp cloth. It's also important to avoid moisture exposure. Repainting as needed will help maintain the wall's appearance and longevity.

While textured walls can elevate a space in many ways, there are a couple of downsides to consider. Namely, they’re hard to clean, and some textures fall out of fashion quickly. Make sure to consider all your options to find one you truly love before diving in.

While a normal moisture level for drywall is between 5% and 12%, replacement is recommended if you get consistent readings above 17%. At this level, the drywall is likely too compromised by extensive moisture damage to be considered safe. You can replace either the entire sheet or just the affected section. If you are unsure after a visual inspection, it is best to have a contractor or water restoration provider use a professional moisture meter to get an accurate reading.
