"Santiago and his crew miraculously transformed my deceased brother's home from an "as is" sale to a home that will soon be listed close to a neighborhood comparable value. His work was highly professional, and all our communication inspired confidence. He stayed in touch throughout the process of repairing and installing new drywall and sent pictures before and after. All this was done long distance between Georgia and Miami. The work was excellent and I would trust him with any project."

"I had a pretty big Hifi box built inside a wall. Tired of it.. they removed it, made a robust wooden structure, covered it with dry wall. Great plaster job and now I have a new wall for paintings. They called immediately, gave an honest quote, came on time next morning and left the room clean. I will have more jobs to in the near future: will call them again! Thank you."

Drywall questions, answered by experts

You can usually tell if you have plaster or drywall by touch (plaster is harder, colder, and smoother than drywall) or by tapping on it (drywall sounds hollow, plaster does not). If you still cannot tell, peek under an outlet cover and check the cut edges. The rough edges show the composition of the wall. You will see either drywall (two paper sheets sandwiching gypsum material) or only plaster material (no paper sheets).

Yes, you can put paneling over textured walls. Of course, this will come down to personal preference and the type of paneling you want to install. From board-and-batten to shiplap and wainscoting, there are plenty of options to choose from.

Although they are used for similar tasks, spackle and joint compound are not the same. Joint compound, also known as drywall mud, consists of limestone and gypsum and is primarily used for large-scale projects like taping and finishing seams on new drywall. Spackle is composed of gypsum and binding agents, making it a thicker compound best suited for small wall repairs like filling nail holes or cracks, as it dries quickly and is easy to sand. For small repairs, either product can be suitable. However, you can use joint compound for small jobs in place of spackle, but you cannot use spackle for large-scale taping and mudding projects.

Deciding whether to repair or replace drywall can be tricky, but your top considerations should be the extent of the damage and what caused the damage. For instance, if you need to repair a small hole caused by a doorknob that hit the wall, you can safely patch it without a second thought. However, if you have significant drywall damage caused by water damage, it’s best to thoroughly remove the drywall to inspect and repair the pipes behind it before replacing it.

While not always necessary, you can glue a drywall ceiling in addition to using screws or nails. Drywall is typically secured to ceiling joists with fasteners, which is often sufficient. However, adding construction adhesive can offer benefits like preventing sagging, bridging gaps, and reducing air leaks for better energy efficiency. It may also be used for specific acoustic or insulation needs. On the other hand, many professionals advise against it because properly placed screws make the drywall structural, glue doesn't add strength, and it makes future repairs or replacements significantly more difficult. Ultimately, it's best to follow local building codes and project-specific requirements to decide if adhesive is right for your ceiling.
