"Outstanding. I noticed the other day that my front porch light had dropped out of the recessed receptacle and was hanging by its wires. I quickly contacted several electricians from Angie's list and only heard back from two of them. Both were pleasant and helpful. One could not get to me for about 7-9 days. The other (Phaze Electric) had me on their schedule the next day. Jerome showed up early and quickly assessed what was needed. He obtained the necessary part from Lowe's and was back in a flash to remove the old housing and install the new one. I also used Phaze Electric a couple of years ago to hang ceiling fans on my back porch and they did an excellent job then, too. Phaze Electric will be the company I call in the future for all my electrical needs. I trust them to do a great job at a reasonable price."

"I was overly impressed with the work and professionalism of Nick and his team at Specialty Product Installers. I initially needed to update my breaker panel to bring my home up to code and then also wanted the addition of a transfer switch for a generator. I received several quotes from other electricians and Specialty Product Installers was the only one that came in at an affordable and reasonable rate. Literally half of what much of their competition was charging. They also didn't try to sell me more than I needed or asked for. With that price came professionalism and quality that I have rarely found with many other contractors. Once permitting was through, Nick and Jonathan were out that same week and arrived precisely when they said they would to get started. The whole job was done in under 9 hours and the work was superb. Inspector came out a few days later and everything was approved on the first inspection. Hassle free. I have not had the best track record with contractors I've hired in the past but I will most definitely be reaching out to Specialty Product Installers again for any future electrical needs and will recommend them to anyone who needs Grade A work done for an affordable rate. Thank you guys!"

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Yes, placing an electrical panel in a bedroom is perfectly acceptable, so long as it meets other space requirements as indicated by OSHA and related agencies. When installed in a bedroom, electricians typically place it in the area directly behind the door swing. This method allows for easy access when conducting electrical panel repairs.

No, you should always use proper electrical wire caps to safely cap off electrical wires. Electrical tape isn’t as durable as electrical caps and can deteriorate and separate over time, exposing the live wires. The only way to use electrical tape for this project is to wrap it around the caps themselves to reinforce them and create an even stronger connection, preventing an electrical emergency.

You can add an electrical outlet outside by sending a wire through the wall from an existing interior outlet. Without having to open up walls, you can thread a new electrical cable from the existing outlet through the wall and to the exterior. You’ll need to cut a hole in the siding to place your new outlet. Ensure that your outdoor outlet is a GFCI outlet (ground fault circuit interrupter outlet) per the National Electrical Code. It’s best to hire an electrician to add an outdoor outlet unless you have previous electrical experience.

No, outdoor outlets are not required to be on a separate circuit. However, you should always defer to local electrical codes when making decisions about how to install your new outlet. An experienced local electrician will be able to inform you of all codes and requirements in place at your home.

Multiple wire sizes are used for residential electrical purposes. While the most common sizes used in homes are 14 and 12 gauge, some appliances, such as stoves, electric water heaters, central air units, etc., may use larger gauge wire to accommodate their larger amperage. Typically, larger appliances require 10-, 8-, or 6-gauge wires.
