Small jobs welcome

"I was dreading having our floors sanded again because of the cost, dust, and disruption. ReCoat Revolution completely changed that. They finished everything in one day for a third of the price, with no noise and no dust. Our floors look brand new, and the whole process was easy and stress-free. This was one of the best home decisions we’ve made. Thank you Greg!"

"Bayshore did a great job. It was easy to get in touch with them to discuss pricing and make an appointment. David called several days ahead to confirm our date and time, and arrived when scheduled. He was very nice and professional, and did a great job with the carpets. While other companies gave me a song and dance about any problem areas (one went so far as to tell me the carpet was "ceasing to be"), David was forthright in pointing out any issues and discussing what was feasible. I am planning to have him come back to steam my tile floors and will definitely use him again the next time I need the carpets cleaned.

"He was on time and a nice person.  He added $50 to the price as it was a mini van.  I thought this was excessive since the plastic coverings were still on the carpeted areas throughout the mini van. I do not have children and do not eat fast food on the go. The van was dusty, but not stained or dirty.  He did not need to shampoo any carpets or seats since my seats are leather and in very nice condition.
The windshields had significant markings on them from the windshield wiper blades AFTER he was complete.  I pointed this out.  He stated his cleaner could not remove the wiper markings.  I brought him a bottle of plain white vinegar to use which was a simple fix.  He used it and of course it cut through the mineral deposits of the water markings. He did not go beyond the simple basics of cleaning and an OK polish job. I do not believe he polished the roof of the van since he did not have a step ladder to reach the area.  He was satisfied with his work. When a service person has this minimal attitude about his work, it is not someone I would recommend or use again.  We had no unpleasant exchanges, but I chose not to add a gratuity.  I felt the $50 added on for a very clean interior prior to his work was enough of a gratuity.  Had his work ethic and finished product been better, I would have hired him to detail my second vehicle.

Floor Polishers questions, answered by experts

Before starting on a full refinishing project, determine if your floors need to be completely sanded down to the bare wood or if the damage is shallow and mostly cosmetic. Deep scratches and gouges will require you to rough sand using a drum sander or belt sander, but small surface scratches or floors that have only lost their luster don’t need a complete overhaul. Instead, you can skip the rough sanding step and sand-screen the old finish with a buffer, removing only the top layer of polyurethane.

Professionals use various tools and cleaning solutions based on the type of floor they’re cleaning. They often use industrial steam cleaners to pull debris out of the carpet. For localized stains, they may use a commercial cleaner or a mixture of water, vinegar, and dish soap. For tile, they’ll typically use dish soap and hot water, plus a mixture of baking soda and hot water for the grout. For cleaning wood floors, they might use a low-heat steamer, a mop with an oil wood floor cleaner, or a mixture of hot water, vinegar, and lemon juice.

The cost to polish floors averages around $200 per room, but you could pay anywhere from $100 to $300. Some factors that influence the total cost of floor polishing include the following:

  • Square footage of flooring

  • Type of floor

  • Whether you need floor repairs done beforehand

  • Whether or not you want professional floor cleaning done beforehand

Since square footage is the most significant cost factor, you might get a more accurate estimate by using the average cost per square foot for floor polishing, which is between $1.00 and $2.50.

Yes, you can mop hardwood floors with a damp flat or string mop as long as it is not soaking wet. Always avoid leaving standing water or fully soaking your hardwood floors, even if they are properly finished. A slightly wet mop, with or without cleaning solutions, will not damage the wood.

If you have waxed floors or floors with a penetrating stain or oil, you can shine them up with some more wax and a cloth or floor buffer. After cleaning the floor thoroughly, apply wax to the floor in small sections and use a clean, dry cloth or towel to buff it until it shines. You can also use an electric polisher, which is especially handy for large floors.
