"I reached out to Terrain Solutions Group inquiring about clearing my land to prepare it for building and I can honestly say they were incredible. From the initial phone call to the completion of the job, every aspect was professional and made so easy. I spoke with Peter and he was able to answer all of our questions and help us out with things we did not know as well. I would HIGHLY recommend this company"

"R.T. installed water catch basins under my downspouts and in other areas for proper yard drainage. He also dug trenches and ran underground drainage pipes to discharge excess rain water into the pond and canal next to my house. He did a great job! My house had water intrusion due to poor grading around the foundation and the yard. R.T. helped me come up with a plan to solve the problem. He was honest, hardworking, and conscientious! He is also knowledgeable and good at solving unexpected problems that come up during the excavation. Would definitely recommend him."

"I met with Steven from California Palms Landscaping to discuss my landscaping project. Just a few hours later I was sent a detailed and comprehensive quote for what my project would cost me, he even made suggestions that actually saved me money. His crew arrived on the date and time scheduled and did an OUTSTANDING job of converting my dried-out front lawn into a beautiful drought-tolerant and environmentally friendly landscape. They completed their work on time, on budget and cleaned up at the end of each dayâ s work. I definitely will use their services again; I have a backyard to rehabilitate!"

"H & P Fencing did an excellent job on our fencing project. The drop down only let me select one type of job however they did more than just one job. They site prepped, installed barbed wire, woven wire, wood portions of fencing, and hung gates. They helped us put in watering stations and fencing that were in compliance with USDA standards. They were clean in their work and didn’t leave behind a mess when the job was completed. They are a professional, efficient, and kind crew. Highly recommend!"

Excavating questions, answered by experts

Landscape edging is more DIYable than trenching. You can DIY your own digging projects, but proceed carefully and only with proper knowledge of the equipment and appropriate safety measures in place. Keep in mind the project's scope and estimate how long it will take you to do it on your own. While you can certainly save money by DIYing home improvement projects, you can’t exactly hide an unfinished—or worse, ruined— landscaping job from the neighbors. It’s always safer to call an excavation pro near you to get an estimate.

The time it takes to build a pool—and dig out the area—varies based on the pool size and type. A professional excavator will take between four and eight hours to dig a pool. The process will take longer if they encounter large boulders or tree roots. Keep in mind that this is a small part of the process in the long run. You will need between eight and 12 weeks to build a pool from start to finish, including the time to apply for permits.

The easier way to find buried sprinkler lines is to use the plan from the professionals who installed the system. If you don’t have professional plans, listen for running water on your lawn when you turn on the system. You may also spot wet areas, giving you an idea of where the heads are. Once you find the sprinkler heads, you’ll likely be able to connect the dots between them, revealing the system below.

Water lines are buried at various depths, depending on the type of line. For example, most sprinkler lines are buried between four and 12 inches underground. On the other hand, water mains usually sit between one and 3 feet below ground. However, they can go even deeper in cold climates to prevent freezing.

Because decomposed granite is a durable material, a crushed rock or gravel base is optional as long as the DG is properly installed and compacted. However, installing a base is a good idea because it will ensure proper drainage and stability and act as a weed suppressant (although you may still occasionally have to pull weeds). Installing an adequate base can also increase the durability of driveways and walkways. If you forego the paver base or gravel underneath, line the area with landscaping fabric to avoid weeds.
