"Ernesto and his guys did a fantastic job at a fair price. The job was to root rake, fill and level approximately two acres of land on Pine Island. Ernesto is the most easy-going, honest and conscientious contractor I have expereinced in my many years here Florida. He was unconcerned about payment until the job was done to my satisfaction, and he completed everything I asked for or expected. As I understand it now, he went over and above what most land clearing professionals do. He brought his excavator back after the job would normally have been finished to clean up the perimeter of fallen trees and brush left behind by the forest mulching guy. He also levelled the area to my satisfaction. I was extremely pleased with the final result and would hire him again in a heartbeat."

"Great work st a very fair price. Trimmed a hurricane damaged tree and removed a very large uprooted tree stump in a difficult location. Once arrived (a little late but thatâ s ok) they immediately started work and didnâ t stop until completed. Excellent work and amazing cleanup. Definitely recommend and wonâ t hesitate to hire again if needed."

"We called Southern Country Land to help us grade our property, there were so many low spots and they were able to get the ground all level. We are very satisfied with our entire experience and will definitely use them again."

"After spending tens of thousands of dollars on high end natural stone, this install has resulted is uneven, chipped pavers, and patio steps that are not close to symmetrical. Was promised perfection and my attempts to express concerns along the way fell on deaf ears. I am very disappointed. Note the pictures I uploaded. Driveway has several places that have sunken. Back patio has several issues but the worst would be the uneven pavers on my seawall which will have to be ripped out and redone before my dock can be installed and the poor quality of the steps. The owner of Pro Grading looked at these pictures and told me "Your job is perfect"."

Excavating questions, answered by experts

The cost to repair a crawl space runs between $1,500 and $15,000, depending on the extent of the damage. Major flooding or water repairs can cost up to $10,000 for removal and repairs. If you simply need to clean your crawl space, expect to pay between $2,000 and $6,000 for a major cleanout. Replacing a crawl space beam due to rot or damage can cost between $1,500 and $5,000, while removing and replacing damaged insulation costs between $1,000 and $4,000.

Slab foundations are more affordable than crawl spaces because they require minimal excavation, as the slab sits directly on the ground or on footers that only sink a few feet into the ground. Crawl spaces require excavation of the entire footprint of the home to several feet below the surface. Not only does that mean higher labor costs, but more materials are necessary for the concrete foundation walls.

Depth is not a qualifying component of evacuation. Any human-made cut, cavity, or depression in the earth’s surface is considered excavation. The hole from excavation can be any size, shape, or depth. Excavation is used to create foundations, reservoirs, drainage ditches, and roads. Long, narrow excavations are called trenches and are often used for underground utilities.

There are several methods to hollow out a tree stump, and the best one depends on your tools, experience, and priorities. Common methods include using a chisel and hammer, a chainsaw, or burning.

  • Chisel and Hammer: This is often considered the easiest approach for those with limited tools or experience, though it is the most time-consuming.

  • Chainsaw: Using a chainsaw is the fastest method, but it comes with significant safety risks, especially for inexperienced users.

  • Burning: This can be an effective method, but it is not recommended unless you can first drill holes into the stump. Without holes, the stump will be difficult to light and may not burn completely through.

A power drill with at least a ⅜-inch diameter bit can make the job quicker and easier, regardless of the primary method. While you can use a chisel or chainsaw without a drill, it will require more time and effort. Always wear protective goggles and thick gloves, as splinters are an inevitable risk.

While you can save some money by digging your own pool, you may end up paying more in construction equipment rental fees in the long run. You could, however, focus your DIY energies on lowering the cost of leveling your lawn for your pool or filling in surrounding landscaping after construction.
