"We originally inquired about having our squeaky floors fixed. When Gary (the owner of Atlantic Coastal Flooring) came to our home to assess the cause of the squeaks, he knew immediately how to correct the problem. He also brought some vinyl plank samples with him, however, they were not the color we had in mind. When we told him we wanted the flooring to compliment our cherry kitchen cabinets but have a casual feel with texture, color contrast and the look of grain and knots found in real wood products. Once Gary listened to our "wish list" he returned with exactly what we had been searching for but couldn't find it anywhere; and we looked in four different retail stores. We selected Natural Pecan vinyl planking. There was a little delay (only about a week) with the product being backordered from the distributor which was out of his control. Gary and his son removed our existing carpet and hauled it away, fixed the squeaks, installed the vinyl plank flooring, painted the quarter round molding to match the baseboards and the finishing touches of nailing the quarter round molding and transition trim. When they were done, our guest bathroom, laundry room, hallway and open concept area of our living/dining rooms were transformed into a completely different look. The flooring is exactly what we were hoping for and Gary's craftsmanship is awesome. My husband and I love our new flooring! Without a doubt, we highly recommend Atlantic Coastal Flooring. We are now planning our next home improvement project and we already know that we will be calling on Gary to do the job."

"This was not a small project. The team did a complete remodel of my master bath, a partial remodel of my guest bath as well as replacing tile in my kitchen and foyer. Dustin is very easy to work with. I needed someone I could trust when it came to the design of the master bath. Dustin helped me turn my vague concepts into very concrete ideas. His team was wonderful to work with. They were skilled craftsmen who were very respectful of my space, My condo finally feels like home. I would highly recommend this group if you are considering a project. Thank you Coastal Bay."

"Sergio did two projects for us. First removed popcorn ceilings and full repaint of the entire house. They did an amazing job. Then after a water leak we did a major home remodel that touched every room in the house and included, drywall, hardwood floors, tile floors, carpet, painting kitchen cabinets, new counter tops, new lighting and electrical work, new doors and all the trim, new roof and new deck. They were there everyday and Sergio called me everyday. His people were amazing polite and very clean. The worked was complete a month early and we were extremely pleased with all the work. He is the best contractor I have ever worked withâ ¦."

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

If you hire a professional to lay tile, you can expect to pay $3 to $15 per square foot for labor. For a 100-square-foot tiling project, that would equal $30 to $150 in labor. These costs may increase if you need extra services (such as tile removal, wall repair, or waterproofing). For example, tile removal costs an additional $2 to $7 per square foot.

The easiest tile size to install is large tiles, and they’re easier to install than small tiles—the job is faster and simpler when there’s less placing, adhering, and grouting to do. However, when tiles get really big, they’re more difficult to handle, cut, and fit. Standard floor tile sizes are 12-by-12 inches, 18-by-18 inches, and 12-by-24 inches.

Granite countertops cost an average of $3,250 compared to $2,250 for tile countertops. Granite is also harder to DIY than tile, given its weight and bulk, which increases the overall labor cost of installation. Over time, both types of countertops may need sealing to remain resistant to water, heat, and other common kitchen elements.

Yes, it’s possible to cut tile without a wet saw; instead, you can use an angle grinder, a glass cutter, a snap cutter, tile nippers, or a rotary tool with a tile-cutting blade. A manual tile cutter or snap cutter works well for the larger tiles that wet saws are typically used for, while smaller projects might just require nippers or a glass cutting wheel. If you’re working with large quantities of tile, however, power tools are best.

Your floors should be completely level for tile, otherwise you risk damaging the tiles in the future. When there are even small gaps or hills in the subfloor beneath the tile, this puts more pressure on the tile when you walk around on the floor. With repeated traffic, the tiles are at risk of cracking, and you’ll have to deal with tile repairs sooner than if the floor was completely level.
