Small jobs welcome

"They were excellent. Very good service. They power washed roof and siding. They also did walkways and patios. We cannot believe how wonderful it looks. We strongly recommend them."

"Darren and his team installed new, super-sturdy and beautiful handrails on a set of stairs at my father's home. Darren was friendly and helpful throughout the process, and eager to brainstorm to give us what we needed. It was a relatively small job, but Darren worked carefully and conscientiously, and he explained everything thoroughly to my father. We love the new rails and would hire him again in a second."

"I will be hiring again for other projects. He did a great job. Was very neat and cleaned up afterward - leaving the work area like he found it. He is a very nice, hard working man. Iâ m happy I found him."

"Kareem did an excellent job replacing 4 interior doors in my condo. This building is 60 years old and the door frames are out of alignment. Skillful craftsmanship was needed to plane the doors so they would fit properly. Exceptionally done and the doors open and close securely. Kareem’s very positive, cheerful, and trustworthy; a pleasure to work with. Would certainly hire again should future home repairs be needed."

"Jim and his team were very professional throughout and did an awesome job renovating our exterior porch that enabled us to proceed with our initial concrete project. Jim's recommendation in 3D allowed us to visualize the plans in advance and the end result was perfect for our needs. I will be reaching out to Lockhart Construction for future work and highly recommend that you do the same!!"

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Traditionally, bungalows are single-story homes, although having a half or partial story on top of the first floor is common. While adding a second story to a bungalow is certainly possible, the home would no longer be considered a bungalow by the strictest definition.

Yes, ceiling joists are typically load-bearing. However, their primary function is to support the weight of the ceiling and loads applied to it, like lighting fixtures and ceiling fans. They can also help support the roof, especially if they’re part of truss systems. Remember, the load-bearing capacity of ceiling joists depends on the material, size, and space between them.

No rules state how much of a load-bearing wall can be removed. Rather, you need to adequately support any area that is removed. Support should always be added to as much wall area is being removed. Failing to support the area properly will result in structural damage.

Yes, using certified lumber and engineered wood products for reduced environmental impact.

Yes, professionals can install new frames, trim, and threshold adjustments for a complete finish.
