Customers say: True professional

"Terry and his crew were very professional from the estimate to the last minute they spent in my home. They used quality paint, I know this because there was no horrible paint smell after the job was completed. Speaking of completed, they completed the job in one day. I am very impressed."

"We couldn't have been more pleased with the quality of the service and the work that was done. General Painting is a professionally run operation; we appreciated the attention to detail that was evident from the job estimate, contract and follow through on promises. Ours is an old shingled farm house that needed the wood shingle to be stained and the trim to be painted. The prep work they did was impressive and the crew was unfailingly polite and responsive to any concerns or directives. We will be using them again for interior work in the near future!!! We whole heartedly recommend them."

Customers say: Super punctual

"I hired Ambrocio's to paint our barn following a roofing and repair job. They completed in job in 4 days, pressure washing the entire structure, staining the siding and painting all the trim. They did a thorough job, were fairly neat on the job site, and the barn looked brand new after the job. A couple of problem areas were also brought to my attention so I could address them as needed in the future. I would happily hire them again."

"We hired James to paint the entire interior of our home (walls, ceilings, trim, etc), as well as caulk all the new molding throughout the house, and paint all the doors - interior and exterior - and stain our front door. He did an excellent job. He worked clean and efficiently, and was able to get the job done in a good amount of time. The entire job took about 10 days. He was honest and accommodating to any changes, and when we asked about doing some jobs, he was honest and advised on how it may look (perhaps not as good as Id want it to look) and what would be required, (even if it meant that he was talking himself out of work!) which I appreciated. He was professional and very responsive to my emails, texts, and calls. I would highly recommend his company and services to anyone who is looking for a great painter. Had a really wonderful experience and will use him for all our painting needs moving forward!"

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Liquid rubber is great for waterproofing, but it can damage your deck if it’s not applied correctly. First, it can trap moisture in the wood if the deck isn’t completely dry before application.  Second, applying it too thickly can create a heavy, rubbery surface layer that peels and cracks under fluctuating temperatures. For the best results, ensure the wood is completely dry before application, and apply the liquid rubber in thin, even coats. A quick inspection every now and then will help you catch any issues early, keeping your deck protected and looking its best.

Always sand a deck before repainting so the wood is smooth and ready for paint. While you do not need to fully remove paint before repainting, sanding helps remove any areas with weather and sun damage. Sanding also helps remove chipped or flaking paint and opens the wood pores to improve paint adhesion.

DIY is possible but presents risks of uneven surfaces or improper adhesion; professionals offer expertise to ensure a lasting finish.

Unless you’re using a 2-in-1 formula or painting over an existing coat of paint, it pays to apply a coat of primer ahead of your new paint. Decks see a lot of footfall and exposure to extreme and sudden temperature changes and moisture levels. The primer promotes better paint adhesion, moisture repellency, and a smoother finish, which means you’ll often need fewer coats of paint.

Limewash and whitewash are two techniques used to give brick a light, matte finish, but they differ in composition, application, and permanence. The best choice depends on your aesthetic goals and the specific surface.

Composition

  • Limewash: A natural and environmentally friendly option made from limestone, water, and sometimes pigments. It is breathable and soaks into porous surfaces like brick.

  • Whitewash: Traditionally made from lime, water, chalk, and binders, but a similar look can be achieved with watered-down white paint. It is paint-based and sits on top of the surface.

Appearance and Finish

  • Limewash: Provides a natural, textured appearance that allows the brick's character to show through. It offers a more traditional finish.

  • Whitewash: Creates a softer, more opaque finish, often used for a rustic or shabby-chic style.

Application and Permanence

  • Limewash: Is semi-permanent and can be removed, making it a good choice if you might want to change the look in the future. It requires more skill to apply and cannot be used on previously painted brick.

  • Whitewash: Is a more permanent solution. It is more forgiving to apply and can be used on painted brick. However, because it sits on the surface, it can trap moisture.

Ultimately, if you want a breathable, natural, and reversible finish for unpainted brick, limewash is a great option. If you need a more permanent, opaque coating that can be applied over painted surfaces, whitewash is the better choice. Whitewashing may also be more economical, costing approximately $1.40 to $4.20 per square foot.
