"Sky City took our old wooden deck away and gave us a beautiful new deck. The process was without problems. The workers were neat with the supplies and produced a wonderful deck. The owner kept us informed as the process went on. Thank you , Sky City!!"

"We couldn't have been more pleased with the quality of the service and the work that was done. General Painting is a professionally run operation; we appreciated the attention to detail that was evident from the job estimate, contract and follow through on promises. Ours is an old shingled farm house that needed the wood shingle to be stained and the trim to be painted. The prep work they did was impressive and the crew was unfailingly polite and responsive to any concerns or directives. We will be using them again for interior work in the near future!!! We whole heartedly recommend them."

Small jobs welcome

"Double Diamond Painting We canâ t say enough good things about Double Diamond Painting and its owner Brian Schaller. Heâ s been in the painting business for many years training many crews. He now has a truly professional handpicked crew that donâ t have to be told what to do. Iâ m a perfectionist and have always done things myself but at 70 Iâ m no longer able to climb ladders. I interviewed several painting companies. I could tell that Brian would be best for the job of painting the exterior of our home. Itâ s so rare to find people that care about their job and take pride in their work. The whole crew went beyond the call. I watched a neighbor get ripped off as a power washing company did the whole two story house from the ground. Double Diamond did it the right way by power-washing from a ladder so they were not shooting under the clapboards and not doing an inferior job. Preparation is the most important part of a good job. They scraped, sanded, and primed everything that needed special care. In the end it looks like a new home even though weâ ve been here for 40 years. Our heartfelt thanks to Brian and his professional crew. Did I mention Double Diamond was the lowest price of all I interviewed? We would highly recommend them for all your painting needs."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Staining a deck with a rag is typically a better option than using a brush, as it helps the stain penetrate deeper into the wood. However, both brushes and rags are best reserved for detailed work because using these tools on an entire deck can require tediously crawling around on your hands and knees. A pad applicator, sprayer, or roller are preferred alternatives to applying stain over the majority of a deck. Use a rag for railings and other detailed work, and let the wood soak up as much of the stain as possible before wiping away drips or pools.

Whether you can paint over your existing paint depends on what’s on there. Most of the time, you’ll want to sand down or scrape off the paint that’s currently coating your surface. Epoxy paint, for example, won’t let new paint stick to the surface. Latex paint is more forgiving and will accept a new coat, but a primer is recommended if you’re switching colors.

Yes, many repair services include repainting to match the color of the existing siding or walls. Most professionals offer this service to ensure the repaired area blends in seamlessly.

Ipe wood can last up to 75 years with minimal maintenance because its own oils help to preserve it. However, to get the most out of your Ipe wood deck, you should perform some routine maintenance, including regular cleaning, sweeping of leaves and debris, and rinsing spills with a hose. It’s also important to repair any deep scratches as soon as you spot them and reseal the deck annually to protect against scratches and scuffs.

You don't need to seal your deck after painting it because most exterior paints are waterproof and weather-resistant. While stealing is not necessary, it can add an additional layer of protection.
