"I can't say enough about the job that Jacob and his team did on my interior house painting project. Initially, I scheduled five estimates. (3) through Angie's list and (2) through HA, and I ended up receiving six quotes. Pro Painters may not have been the lowest but was within the ballpark and, more importantly, took the time to point out areas that needed repair, made suggestions, and, more importantly, listened to my needs. Jacob and his team were punctual, painted the rooms, ceilings, and made the repairs as promised. The price quoted was the price paid upon completion Jacob was the only contractor to follow-up on his quote. I ended up selecting Pro-Painter over another contractor that was highly recommended by an excellent friend. I was concerned, but those concerns and my gut feeling dissipated after day one. My original quote was for three bedrooms and a hallway. Pro-Painter painted the entire interior of my house within the promised time, cleaned up every day, and made sure to show me the finished work each day. Pro Painters exceeded expectations. I will be hiring then again to complete the exterior of the house. Thank you Jacob for your professionalism, attention to detail and exceeding our expectations."

"Great experience from Natalie for the estimate to Kevin and Corey on the business end. The paint crew was meticulous, neat and did a beautiful job. Special thanks for getting my project done expeditiously despite rainy weather and my short timeline. Overall, a pleasure to work with."

"Leonard and helper went above and beyond my idea of what the job entailed. My old fieldstone outside fireplace/barbecue needed TLC and when they were done, it looked like new! Very pleased with their work, They were courteous and cleaned up after themselves."

"I have a large deck with a grape vine top. It was in dire need of repairs(washing, sanding, replacing rotted wood, staining) I called J. Corrigan from Angie's list. He arrived estimated and I contracted with him. His team arrived and an excellent job was performed in the amount of time given. I will be calling them again for other projects. "Thanks Joe and team for a job well done.""

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

The need for a topcoat on a painted deck depends on various factors, primarily the type of paint used and your desired level of protection. Many premium deck paint formulations are self-sealing, eliminating the necessity for an additional topcoat. These paints often have built-in additives that substantially protect against moisture, UV rays, and everyday wear and tear.

Painted decks typically require a new coat about once every ten years. In between new coats, it's best to maintain your deck by regularly removing debris, washing it down with non-abrasive cleaners, and staying ahead of structural issues, such as loose boards and rotting wood. In some cases, painting a small section of your deck affected by damage or the sun can lower your costs and workload.

Many decking oils can help slow down algae growth, but they don't completely stop it. These oils work by sealing the wood, which reduces moisture and, therefore, algae growth. Some decking oils also help protect against UV damage, but they need to be reapplied according to the manufacturer’s instructions to ensure the decking stays protected.

No, it is not okay to paint over rotted wood. Painting over rotted wood will not address the underlying issue and can trap moisture, leading to further decay. Properly addressing the rotted wood by removing and replacing or repairing the damaged areas is necessary before you can even consider painting.

For the longest-lasting exterior paint, consider acrylic or enamel (oil-based) paints. Acrylic paints, including acrylic latex and acrylic enamel, are known for withstanding harsh weather and sun exposure. Enamel-based paints are also one of the most durable options available. While latex paint is common, it typically has a shorter lifespan than acrylic or oil-based options. The paint's finish also affects its durability; a higher gloss finish is generally more durable. For resistance to moisture and cracking, matte and satin finishes can be effective, while a high-gloss acrylic or oil-based paint offers a combination of maximum longevity and durability.
