"We worked with Sean through the whole process. The exterior of the home came out beautiful. All our neighbors complimented it. For the interior work, they did a very good job with some tough edging work. Overall, it came out great. My only complaint is that the exterior job clean up could have been a bit better. When power washing the house, the old (now diluted with water) paint was running onto our deck. They did not rinse this off and it left a tint of white on the deck (nothing serious). But I also think they they thought it would rinse away with the next rain. Sean is absolutely willing to due whatever it takes to make you happy, so if I would have told him to make sure to rinse the deck, they would have. Honest mistake, and I would definitely still hire them in the future."

"I have a large deck with a grape vine top. It was in dire need of repairs(washing, sanding, replacing rotted wood, staining) I called J. Corrigan from Angie's list. He arrived estimated and I contracted with him. His team arrived and an excellent job was performed in the amount of time given. I will be calling them again for other projects. "Thanks Joe and team for a job well done.""

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Yes, it's a good idea to sand the wall with fine-grit sandpaper after spackling, especially if you plan on painting. You can do this by hand or using a sander, but the idea is to ensure the spackle is flush with the wall. Sanding will give your wall a smooth, uniform finish and help your paint and wallpaper stay put.

You have a couple of options when choosing a durable pool deck coating. Epoxy is common and offers excellent stain and water resistance. Epoxy also withstands high temperatures and UV lighting, making it ideal for sunny spots. You can also add a coating to cement, which significantly lowers the temperature of the concrete, is environmentally safe, and makes cleanup a breeze.

Yes, it is generally a very good idea to seal your deck after pressure washing. Power washing removes not only dirt and debris but also a thin layer of wood, leaving the surface exposed and more susceptible to weathering. Sealing is almost always needed after this process. After a general cleaning, sealing isn't automatically necessary if the existing sealant is still intact. You can test the surface by placing a few drops of water on it. If the water beads up, the sealant is working. If it soaks into the wood, it's time to apply a new sealant. If it has been a few years, it's wise to remove the old sealant, wash the deck, and reseal for maximum protection.

Yes, you must thoroughly clean your deck before staining. If you don't, dirt, debris, grease, and mildew can get trapped between the wood and the new stain. This not only looks unsightly but also prevents the stain from penetrating the wood properly, reducing its ability to protect the deck from weather and UV rays. As a result, the stain won't last as long or look as good. Any existing mold or mildew left untreated can continue to grow beneath the new stain, potentially leading to wood rot and structural damage. Always wait at least 48 hours after cleaning for the wood to dry completely before applying stain.

You should seal your deck every one to two years, but you’ll also need to clean and repair your wood deck throughout the seasons. You may want to hire a local house cleaning service to sweep and clean the deck thoroughly. These cleaning services cost around $50 per hour.

Inspect your deck at least once a year, and if you notice any damage or rot, expect to spend about $10 to $50 for simple DIY fixes or about $2,000 for professional repairs on more extensive damage.
