"I hired Adam and his team to frame and install my new kitchen including framing out a new pantry in a very difficult space as well as install a slider and reconfigure some walls. I am so pleased with the result. His attention to detail and work ethic are a rare find. "First rate! Arrived on time and worked non-stop until work was finished. Had a water leaks on the ceiling below two bathrooms in the garage, plumbers had to cut out several pieces of sheetrock in order to access the drainpipes. Nixon and his crew replaced the insulation and the sheetrock. They had to work around the garage door opener, the space was very tight. The ceiling looks like new, I am very pleased with the result. Also replaced a missing piece of sheetrock in the wall, and insulated a coldwater pipe without my asking."

"Steve is an excellent handyman. He was flexible to work with our busy schedule and arrived on time. Very soft spoken and respectful gentleman, I must say. Repair Job he did on our zipline was anexcellent quality, and after the job he ensured no mess was left behind, and site was clean. Cherry on the top, his service charges were very reasonable. Highly recommended."

"Bill is an attention to detail guy. He’s responsive and cooperative when you have ideas or asks and we had plenty of them. First project....remodeling a room over our garage to become my wife’s pottery studio with a small beer brewing nook for me. What a space!! A far cry from the boiler room basement. Other job was replacing two poorly engineered decks on the front and rear of our house. All Aztec now...Goodbye rot!!"

"Damion arrived on time and with a smile. He is professional being all tools and tarps for the work area. Took direction well and did a great job hanging a family portrait, curtain rod over bay window and large mirror. Also installed garage keypad. I will be calling Damion for future handyman needs!"

Pole Barn Builders questions, answered by experts

The term “cottage” is subjective, so there’s no rigid definition, but it generally refers to a small home with simple and purposeful architecture that embraces nature and focuses on charm over everything else. Cottages are typically 1 or 1 1/2-stories tall, usually with gabled roofs, and are built out of natural materials that help make the structure a part of the surrounding nature rather than something that stands out from it. A big part of what makes a cottage a cottage is the decor, which includes natural materials from the nearby area.

You can use a variety of wood to build a barn door, but the most common options include 1-by boards and 2-by boards for the backing and the decorative boards on the front of the door. Softwoods like pine will save you some money and should hold up well, while hardwoods like maple and oak will stand up to more wear and tear. You could also build the backer out of plywood to minimize the cuts you need to make. Whatever you decide on, make sure the width of the wood is compatible with the mounting brackets you buy.

You may need a local building permit and written permission from your homeowner’s association to install a shed, especially if you’re doing any substantial land clearing or installing electricity or plumbing. Permit requirements vary between municipalities, so research the local laws before starting your project. If you hire a contractor to build the shed, they can help determine which permits will be necessary.

Prefab sheds can be worth it, depending on your needs and goals. If you want to build the shed yourself or have a quick project turnaround, then a prefab shed will likely be worth it. If you want something more customized, then starting from scratch may help you achieve your goals better than a prefab could.

Building a treehouse can vary in difficulty depending on factors such as design complexity, size, and the builder’s woodworking experience. Basic treehouses with simple designs can be manageable for DIYers with some carpentry skills, while more elaborate structures may pose challenges. Adequate planning, research, and careful execution can make the process more manageable, and resources like premade plans or professional assistance are always available for additional support.
