"Lloyd was great! Had awesome ideas and understood my needs. He worked with my budget to come up with a proposal that ticked all the boxes for now. Yard looks beautiful! He transplanted shrubs, planted stunning new shrubs, raked, mulched and repaired lighting. Cleaned up 100% upon leaving. Professional and all around great guy. Will hire again!"

Always on time, kind and friendly, they knew what they were doing, very professional, very clear in each step they had to do in my backyard and fair price. Most importantly, the results exceeded my expectations. I am very fortunate to work with JJT Landscaping and I would like to express my appreciation. Best regards, Rozana."

"My yard was absolutely terrible. He came and talked to me about the different possibilities to make my yard look better. He also convinced me to add mulch to my yard and to be quite honest I was very hesitant, but after I gave it thought I decided to go forth. I am so glad that I did! My yard looks 100 times better! They worked fast and have lasting results. He was very responsive very respectful very informative. Thank you so much!! I will definitely be giving referrals, as I am very pleased with my yard. Whenever I am in need of yard work in the future, him and his team will most definitely be my go to. If anyone is looking for an honest landscaper, Al is your guy."

Landscaping questions, answered by experts

Surface-level tree roots might only pose a small threat, such as being a tripping hazard or obstacle when you mow your lawn. But if mature tree roots start growing in the direction of your home’s foundation or plumbing system, it could be a real problem. Cutting small tree roots out before they grow too large can keep your home safe without removing the whole tree.

It depends. Smaller, younger trees take longer to mature, but they're more resilient, their roots don't get as damaged during transplanting, and they recover faster. Plus, they're much more affordable to plant, and it's possible to DIY the planting.

On the other hand, mature trees produce fruit faster and provide more shade and privacy immediately. Ideally, a small or medium tree is the better choice if you can wait a few years for it to mature. But if you need immediate maturity, a larger tree is the only option.

Buying plants from a nursery is one thing, but ensuring that they are properly planted is another. While you might not need to hire a landscaper for every plant that you buy from a nursery, it’s a great idea to have their expertise and experience to plant larger items, like burlapped trees or specialty plants like rose bushes. Even better, before making a trip to a nursery to buy new plants, consult a local landscaper to test your soil for pH levels, soil texture, and phosphorus and potassium levels to help determine the best plants for your area.

The best time to plant a tree is in the spring, so the roots have time to grow into the surrounding soil before winter sets in. Some people recommend planting in the late fall. However, planting in the spring reduces the stress on the tree, as it will be emerging from dormancy, giving it the full spring and summer ahead to acclimate and put down roots into the soil.

Yes, if you are using rocks to form a pathway or driveway, it’s a good idea to first install landscape fabric before layering in your rocks. Landscape fabric is your first line of defense against unwanted grass and weeds on your rocky surface.
