Once they had the roof off they covered the exposed area with a giant tarp to protect the exposed attic. The quality of their framing and finish woodwork is topnotch. They custom-built storage cabinets along one wall under a long window seat and created a new attic space for storage. They managed the installation work to extend the HVAC into the new space. Mark even built a small table for us with the left-over granite that we used for the counter tops. Throughout all the work, they combined creativity and quality. We are very happy with the finished product as well as the entire process from initial contract discussion through installation. Today, they are starting another project for us to remodel our back patio with a new roof and patio extension for a hot tub and firepit. We recommend them without reservation.
"We are so happy that you are enjoying the addition, and we are looking forward to starting your next project! I'm sure you are as well. Your outdoor living space is going to add the finishing touch to your already beautiful home! We thank you for your confidence in us, and know that it is our job to build a relationship with every customer, so they are completely comfortable through every phase of their project. Again, thank you!"
After a few days of work, we noticed saw dust on our dining room floor and realized that these men were using our dining room table to cut wood off of! The new vanity, toliet, tub, etc. were NOT supposed to be stored in our townhouse (we told them we didn't have a garage) but alas, our jacuzzi tub sat in our dining room for several weeks. The other furniture filled our spare bedroom.
I came home early from work one day to find our TV on and blasting country music! Their excuse was that their radio couldn't pick up the country music station signal. Even after we hid the remote, they were STILL turning on the TV so we had to complain to Lowe's.
The contractor in charge of these 2 guys was never on site to check on their work or to supervise them. That became our job. The dumpster that was placed outside of our house in the parking lot was supposed to be on wood so it wouldn't damage the blacktop. No wood was placed and the blacktop was indeed dented.
One of the men continually washed his plaster and paint filled hands in our KITCHEN sink! Despite the sign I put up asking him not to!
Their work was slow and filled with mistakes. They had to redo the niches in the hall bath shower over twice because they kept placing the top niche 4 inches away from the ceiling. The toilet in that bathroom was also installed incorrectly - the ring underneath never expanded correctly so we ended up with flooding.
The masterbath was the ultimate worst, however. The workers neglected to pay attention to where the electrical wall outlets were placed originally. When they put them back, they were in ridiculous places! You would walk into the bath room and the switch to turn the light on was about 20 inches away from the door. They argued with us about changing it because the wall had already been put up & painted. After much insisting on our part, it was moved but the wall shows evidence of it. The paint job is lumpy and you can still see where they had placed the outlet box.
Also in the masterbath, the vanity mirror is about 4 inches too high. It's ok because I'm tall, but if the next owner of this house is short he/she will most likely only be able to see their eyes in that mirror. The most incredible mistake that was made was that they glued the back of the sink and installed the sink vanity (which is about 1 inch away from t he wall) WITHOUT PAINTING THE WALL FIRST! The workers told us that the painter had a special tool for tight spaces. Nonsense! When the painter arrived he was perplexed has to how he was going to paint. Honestly, the paint job in the master bath looks like a 3rd grader's work in some spots.
During their work on the master bath, my husband & I were getting up a 1/2 hr earlier for work so we could place the protective plastic on things in our bedroom. This included my clock radio which I was taking off of my night table and placing in an empty garbage can. I have my alarm clock radio set to FM 88.3 jazz - always. One night I went to turn it on to fall asleep and country music came blasting out of my radio on FULL VOLUME! It really unnerved me that these me were snooping around our bedroom looking for a radio.
When the work was finally finished - AFTER 6 WEEKS (we were told 3 weeks). They left their "Final Project" in horrible condition - there was a coffee cup in the jacuzzi tub, the jacuzzi tub was not plugged in, paint drops were on the toilet seat, the shower curtain rod, the johnny cabinet, and the floor.
We ended up complaining to the regional manager of Lowe's and received a refund of a little over $2,000. Lowe's should be ashamed of themselves for working with such inept idiots!
"We apologize to (deleted member name) for leaving a bad taste in his mouth about our company. We take customer satisfaction very seriously. With that being said, there are some very untrue statements, and the customer has seemed to forgotten that some of the complaints should be towards Lowe's, as they were contracted by the customer to complete their scope of work. We would also like to point out, that Solimine Contracting has made some changes in carpenters since this job. As far as demolition is concerned, we always protect all furniture. As conscious as any contractor can be in keeping living spaces clean; when you are under costruction and living through a project, dust will find its way in. Lowe's was in charge of ordering and delivery/ storage of materials. That was never under Solimine Contracting's contract. The complaint in regards to the dumpster was also Lowe's responsibilty, not Solimine Contracting's. In regards to redoing the hall bath shower, Solimine Contracting was working off of a tile layout from Lowe's. This is also true for the electrical outlets. FYI, when a contractor is hired for Lowe's, they are not able to discuss with the customer any changes that should or could be made to the design. Solimine Contracting was specifically instructed to discuss all matters with the people in charge at Lowe's, NOT the customer. Unfortunately, this makes the subcontractor look like they do not know what they are doing. Hence, why it has been Solimine Contracting's choice to no longer work for Lowe's . The project did take longer than expected because the materials ordered through Lowe's which took longer to come in. As far as stating that the price was higher than the original estimate; this is a problem that they should take up with Lowe's as we got paid by Lowe's, not the customer. Solimine Contracting was never aware of how much the customer was charged, and in this case Solimine Contracting was not paid by Lowe's $2000.00 of what was owed to us. Paying too much, time schedule of work completed and when the customer was put into the schedule is not anyting Solimine Contracting ever dealt with the customer, nor should be blamed for it. As we believe to always provide a service with honesty and integrity, Solimine Contracting will take responsibilty for the music being used and the kitchen sink being used; both issues where we apologized directly to the customer. We feel that not only is the cusotmer's complaint inaccurate, but a little abusive. We are a company of high standards and doing what's right for the customer. We can provide a very long list of bathroom referrals, to any cusotmer looking for a contractor."
"The client, as every client who has skylights, was informed that safety for our guys is priority, and if it was not too dangerous we would clean her skylights. She was informed that it was too dangerous. Her disatisfaction came from her skylights not getting done. We pride ourselves on our professionalism, whether it be a window cleaning job, or an addition. Personal threats is not acceptable, nor is it a true statement."
