"I received a phone call almost immediately after requesting service for my boiler. I was scheduled for the very next day, and the work that was done was done quite well. Greg, the service tech who came out, explained to me what he was doing as he was cleaning my boiler. I highly recommend using this company!"

"Precise HVAC was wonderful. I actually was going to get more quotes but after working with their salesperson I decided to not even bother. They answered all my questions and made suggestions for things I didn't know about. I'm not even sure I care if I got a better quote or not. With Precise I know that they cross the t's and dotted the eyes and I don't have to worry about missing something."

Install Boiler questions, answered by experts

Using heating oil to heat your home has its advantages, but it also has its disadvantages.

Consider these drawbacks before installing a heating oil system:

  • Heating oil prices fluctuate frequently

  • Risk of oil spills or leaks

  • Produces more air pollution and soot compared to a gas furnace

  • Regular maintenance required for equipment

  • Need to reorder heating oil consistently to avoid running out

A common HVAC rule is that for every 500 to 600 square feet of living space, you need 1 ton of heating or cooling capacity. Now that you know this common rule, you also need to know that it isn’t very accurate, and a dedicated pro wouldn’t use it for your home. If you talk to a pro who won’t or can’t perform a proper Manual J calculation, consider hiring someone more thorough.

If you have a closed-system boiler that requires an expansion tank, you cannot safely operate it without one, as this risks extensive damage or even explosions. You must find a way to make room for the installation. Options include repositioning the boiler, rerouting the boiler piping to a more open area, or performing minor remodeling to create the necessary space. If you are unsure whether your boiler needs an expansion tank or how to best accommodate one, it's recommended to have a local heating service professional assess the situation. They can confirm the requirement and suggest the most practical solution.

Yes, you can build a sunroom addition to your home despite living in a cold climate. Make sure to use high-quality insulation and windows and to supplement with sufficient heating from your HVAC system. The windows in the sunroom allow enough natural light into the room to help heat it most times without having to use the furnace. Even a small electric fireplace can heat the sunroom well enough.

If you go to turn it counterclockwise and it won’t turn anymore, it’s open. Like most other valves, you should be able to turn a radiator valve counterclockwise (to the left) to open it and clockwise (right) to close it. To close a radiator valve, turn it clockwise until you meet some resistance and can’t turn anymore, but do so carefully to avoid breaking the valve.
