"WB Lightning Rods did an excellent job installing lightening rods on our home. The owner stayed onsite the entire time to supervise the work. He took extra care to plan the rod and cable placement to ensure the proper protection and retain the aesthetics of our home. His crew were knowledgeable, polite, neat and efficient. We could not be more pleased with the results."

"The problem with ice buildup in our Samsung was corrected by adding a heater element. Action Appliance and its repairman were great. As a separate issue, I am displeased with the reliability of the manufacturer, Samsung, and would not buy another of their appliances in the future. We now have had two costly repairs in a four year period."

"Upgrade by James G. (JZG Electric) James G. from JZG Electric did an outstanding job on our main panel upgrade. From the very beginning, he was prompt, professional, and incredibly thorough. He took the time to walk through the existing setup, explain the required changes in plain language, and outline exactly what to expect during the upgrade. On installation day, James worked efficiently and with clear attention to detail. His workmanship is clean, organized, and clearly reflects a deep understanding of electrical systems/code and safety standards. He coordinated the utility shut-off smoothly, kept the workspace neat, and ensured everything was brought up to code without any surprises. After the upgrade, he double-checked all circuits, labeled everything clearly, and made sure we understood the new panel layout. The difference in reliability and safety is immediately noticeable. Overall, James delivered exceptional service from start to finish. Highly recommend JZG Electric!"

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Yes, states and local governments can have additional building codes that address kitchen outlets. In most cases, these kitchen outlet codes simply refer to the NEC. However, states or local municipalities can have separate requirements for electrician licensing, such as requiring a permit to make big changes, and other details.

Outlets do wear out, usually within 15-25 years, but they can fail even sooner than that —sometimes in a matter of years. If your plugs always slide out after you put them in, this is a sign your outlets need to be replaced. Additionally, if your outlets are damaged, cracked, discolored, or regularly tripping the circuit breaker, they may be at the end of their life.

Grounding is an essential part of installing an electric fence. Without grounding, the electrical circuit will be incomplete. That means the fence won’t work and will fail at delivering shocks upon impact. Even grounding the fence improperly can cause faulty shocks, if any. To ground the fence, you will need to use ground rods, ideally made from copper or galvanized metal, that are at least 4 feet high, for best results.

Knob and tube wiring is old, and its casing is brittle. This means that it's possible to receive a dangerous electrical shock if you touch a live wire and essentially become an electrical pathway. Although the scenario is unlikely, touching any K&T wiring is simply not a good idea in any instance. Leave any wire handling to the professionals.

Whole-house generators can run continuously for extended periods, even for weeks at a time (around 400 to 500 hours), as long as they have a sufficient fuel supply. However, this type of extensive use will increase wear and tear and can shorten the generator's overall lifespan. During long periods of operation, it's important to check and refill the engine oil as needed, potentially as frequently as daily depending on the model. If your generator uses a fuel tank, ensure it is kept full to prevent unexpected shutdowns.
