"If you're looking to remodel, hire Bud at Above & Beyond Contracting! Him and his crew were reliable, trustworthy, friendly and easy to work with. His quote was by far the most detailed & fair I received. If there was an issue, he put your mind at ease and took care of it. He recommended details I didn't even think of and it elevated the remodel & I love it. I am so happy with my renovation and couldn't be happier that I went with Above & Beyond Contracting."

Small jobs welcome

"Juliano was very responsive and receptive of ideas I had for the project. The work done turned out the way I wanted and was able to do it within my price range. The only thing I would say needs improvement is the cleanup afterwards. There was more saw dust leftover than I anticipated. Regardless, I would recommend and would hire again for further projects."

"It was a pleasure to work with John and Rick. The products we picked out were perfect for the remodel. The bathroom came out very nice and is a great improvement to the dated 1980s original it replaced. Work performed went well. Minor punch list items were completed prior to final payment. The only issue we ran into was getting the city out for the permit inspection in a timely manner. Job has been substantially complete since November and city was just out for inspection in April. On-site inspection passed - final closeout will be official letter from city in the mail. (This is the reason for the 4.5/5.0 rating as I was lead to believe the permit process was on track in October during the work.) Trevor and Jaime did a great job on the project and were very professional and neat with the jobsite. Would highly recommend Solimine for your home improvement needs."

"I’m very pleased with the service and work I received from Timber Wolf contractors and his crew. He contacted me and arranged a time to look at the work I needed done. He promptly sent me a quote. He set up a time between our schedules to build my spiral staircase and replace a window with a vent. He arrived on time and completed the job beyond my satisfacon. I was so pleased with the results and communication I received, that I hired them to come to my other home to install "Flooring for my sunroom, pantry and hallway. They also painted trim and upgraded my hardware on my kitchen cabinets. I felt very comfortable with Timber and left him a key so I could go to work. I highly recommend Timber Wolf contractors for your home projects, they are professional, polite and hardworking. Respectfully, A. Saint"

"We purchased a home that had two bathrooms that needed to be completely redone. Peter and Bill did an excellent job! We have to renovate the kitchen in the same home and they are going to do the renovations for us on that project as well,"

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

The average cost of DIY window framing is about $40 to $60 in materials. If you hire a window treatment professional, you’ll pay for materials plus labor costs—anywhere from $250 to $800 per window. The final cost is highly dependent on the window size, as larger windows are heavier and more difficult to install, as well as the type of window framing material.

When deciding whether to use nails or screws for framing, the specific needs of the project must be taken into account. Nails have long been the go-to option for framing due to their affordability, ease of installation, and ability to withstand shear forces. They are perfect for structural framing projects where fast assembly is essential. In contrast, screws offer exceptional holding power and are particularly useful in situations requiring increased strength and resistance to pull-out forces. For projects that prioritize accuracy and long-lasting quality, screws may be the preferred option, though nails remain a dependable and efficient choice.

Balcony construction or replacement typically requires a building permit from your local permitting authority. Safety and building integrity are the main reasons for the need to obtain a permit and the subsequent inspections. In some cases, especially cantilevered balconies, your municipality may also require the oversight and signature of a structural engineer.

In framing, studs are placed at 16-inch intervals to coincide with the typical spacing of wall materials such as drywall or plywood. This spacing is called "on-center" and is necessary for maintaining structural stability and efficient use of materials. The 16-inch spacing also helps to distribute the weight evenly across the building's structure. For those looking to cut material costs and improve energy efficiency, 24-inch stud spacing can be employed through a method called "advanced framing". This requires careful planning and adherence to local building codes to ensure structural integrity.

You can enclose an open carport, however, there are several things to consider before opting to do so. You'll want to check local building codes and permit requirements before proceeding to make sure it’s legal. While you can sometimes stick-frame a carport enclosure, pre-fab kits are also available. Remember that you'll likely need to meet concrete slab regulations and provide lighting inside the structure. Both of which could substantially drive up costs.
