"Gordon, Harrison and Louis did an absolutely fantastic job with installing a brand new HVAC system into my old house. The house was not designed to include AC so they had to be very thoughtful in the process of figuring out the best way to install all the equipment. They were on time every day and always kept me informed any issues and next steps.. They did it and we will enjoy the benefits of keeping cool this summer."

"We just had a new HVAC system installed in our home in Aliso Viejo. The contractor was Cool Air Technologies, Bill McIntosh, (714)863-0626. We were very impressed with the new unit put in the attic and back yard, the workmanship, the professionalism, the quick response time to get our appointment, the testing of the new units before they left, the lessons for us on how to use it, and the complete clean up and hauling every piece of the old unit away when they left. They even installed new air vents/registers in every room and air filters! Very impressive and highly recommended to everyone! [*** Link removed ***]"

"Sam, who came out to give me an estimate for a new system, found out that the old fan motor was the culprit and recommended that we just repair the motor. He explained things in detail, helped us to save money in a genuinely sincere attitude, I was impressed how good his service was, and I recommend him for any HVAC issues. I will be using him in the future."

"In all of my life, I’ve never met a company who completely overdeliveredwhat I contracted them for. Professional, seamless transaction. We needed a new HVAC system and we called George Ramirez and his team and George visited. They came out to assess the situation, gave us several options and prices, came when we asked, replaced the unit.George came out as a follow up and was able to repair our AC and saved us so much money. I could not be happier and relieved. The warranty to cover the unit was incredible and we feel so pleased that he will be here if we need him. I mean it sincerely, this is thecompany to call!! Thank you So Cal Boys!"

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

If you have central air conditioning, it’s fine to run your AC all day if that’s what you want—as long as the AC unit is in good condition. But if your AC runs constantly when you don’t want it to, there may be a problem with your system (like the ones we’ve mentioned above). Window AC units and wall air conditioners aren’t as powerful as central AC, so you should only run those kinds of air conditioners for eight to 12 hours at a time.

You should know the main components of an air conditioner: the condenser coils, evaporator coils, drip pan, AC filter, ducts, and refrigerant. Each part plays a key role in the performance and safety of your AC system. When tracking the source of AC issues or odors, it helps to know where to look. Your outdoor unit houses your condenser coils, fan, and compressor. Your indoor unit houses your evaporator coils, drain lines, and filter, and it connects to your ductwork.

A window AC unit is not completely silent. You’ll hear the sound of air blowing, and if you put your ear right up next to the unit, you may hear a slight hiss or gurgle as the refrigerant flows through the system. That said, if your system is making a running water sound, a loud banging sound, a grinding sound, or physically vibrating, you may be facing an issue or malfunction with your AC unit.

No, heat pump maintenance needs are very similar to air conditioners, including keeping outdoor units clean, changing filters regularly, and occasionally scheduling a refrigerant check to see if any has leaked out. Heat pumps typically switch automatically between heating and cooling, so you don’t need to worry about manually changing them every season. However, since they are always on call, they can develop wear and tear faster than an air conditioner.

Yes, scorpions can enter a home through AC vents, especially if the system is not well-sealed. As excellent climbers, they can scale a home's exterior and squeeze through gaps as small as 1/16 of an inch. Scorpions are often attracted to the moisture around air conditioning ducts or seek cooler areas during hot weather, using vents as a pathway inside. They may slip through small openings where the duct meets the vent cover and travel within walls before emerging. To prevent this, inspect your vents, seal any gaps, and consider installing fine mesh screens.
