"Jacques was great to work with and his knowledge and workmanship was excellent. He showed us various cabinet door catalogs to help with our decision, and he was totally willing to custom-mix the wood stain color we had in mind. His sub-contractors (plumbing, electrical, drywall, tile) were all very professional and clean and all had been working with Jacques for 10-15 years each. As for the budget, we had a dollar amount in mind, and his was in the right neighborhood. There were several add-ons we requested after the work began, which he accommodated without issue. Jacques responded to calls or texts very promptly. We were told each bathroom would take 5-7 weeks, and for the most part, that was true. There were minor delays here and there, and we did start the work late in the year near the holidays, but it all worked out fine. Like any job, especially on an old house, there are unforeseen costs that will come up which will take you over budget. This cannot be blamed on anyone. My only complaint would be that he could have communicated a little better on dates and times when workers would be showing up. We frequently found out the night before what would be happening the next day. But the end product was excellent and we are extremely happy. We will definitely hire C&M again for future remodeling projects. Description of work: Remodel guest bathroom: Remove vanity and toilet. Keep existing cast-iron tub. Build new custom vanity and new floor-to-ceiling linen cabinet. Electrical updates for code requirements. Repair drywall and old crack in plaster ceiling, primer coat. Install new toilet, sink, granite countertop & backsplash, lighting, exhaust fan, etc. Replace tub drain (too old). New tile for tub surround & new ceramic tile floor. Epoxy grout used throughout (this was a small upcharge – but totally worth it). Not included: Fixtures, paint, mirrors, cost of tile and stone. Total cost: $20000 Remodel master bathroom: Remove double-sink vanity and toilet. Completely remove 3ft x 3ft shower stall, curb, and shower pan. Bump out one wall of the shower stall to allow for a bench. Raise ceiling in shower stall to match the rest of the bathroom ceiling. Build new custom double-sink vanity. Electrical updates for code requirements. Repair drywall, primer coat. Install new toilet, double-sinks, granite countertop & backsplash and shower bench, lighting, exhaust fan, etc. New tile for shower & new ceramic tile floor. Epoxy grout used throughout. Not included: Fixtures, paint, mirrors, shower door, cost of tile and stone. Total cost: $22000 Extras: Install new cabinet doors in a hallway linen cabinet. "So Cal Builders, replaced our roof, damaged drywall in our living and resurfaced our cabinets. They install a new sink and faucet, backsplash and quartz countertops. Our outdated 30 year old kitchen was transformed into a modern and gorgeous kitchen. The drywall in our living was replaced. Our living room was painted and looks better than it did before. We are pleased to have a much needed new roof. Everyone who worked in our home wore a mask and practiced social distancing. We highly recommend So Cal Builders to our friends and family."

"I hired Kyle for a $14,000 home remodeling project based on reviews from Angie's List and Yelp, and overall, I am satisfied with the work Kyle and his team performed and I feel like I got my money's worth. Below are my thoughts: 1. Timeliness: Kyle's crew showed up on time every day and stuck to the schedule. The entire project stayed mostly on track. Things were slightly delayed due to city inspection, but that was a factor beyond Kyle's control. So definitely an A there. 2. Quality of work - I had three major projects in this remodeling, and below are my thoughts on them: a. Conversion of a bedroom into a mudroom/entry room to garage: For some reason this new house I bought did not have an access door from garage directly into the house, so I hired Kyle to remedy this by turning a bedroom that shares a common wall with the garage into a mud room with an access door. Job involved cutting the wall open and installing a fire rated entry door, as well as removing old wall paper and repainting the room. This job was done very well and definitely an A there. b. Bathroom remodeling: I also had Kyle remove an old bathtub & tile surround and replace it with a new jacuzzi tub, new tiles and an updated tub door. We also had the toilet repositioned as well. Final quality of work was very nicely done and we were very pleased with how the new tiles turned out. Regrettably, the new bath tub got a small 1" size scratch on one of the rim and I had to touch up paint it afterwards. So A-/B+ there due to my new tub getting scratched up during tile installation. c. House electrical upgrade: I had Kyle and his crew installing an 100 amp subpanel with 2x 50 amp outlets in the garage for EV charging. I also had multiple new outlets installed throughout the house. All the newly installed outlets worked very well and I am pleased with the results. However, after all the electrical work were done, three of my outlets in the house lost power due to a "open neutral". To make a long story short, Kyle's crew tried to trouble shoot it for the better part of a day but couldn't figure out what caused it. All the worker could say is that he doesn't think it was caused by their work. As this happened at the very end of the entire remodeling project and I was uncertain whose fault it was, I ended up just letting it go. Subsequently I did more troubleshooting on my own and after several hours of trial-and-error testing using a multimeter, I found a loose neutral wire in a bathroom switch box Kyle's crew worked on. The loose neutral wire was covered up by a bunch of other wire and wire nuts in the switch box. Once that wire was reconnected, the three dead outlets became functional again. My guess is that the wire got shaken loose when Kyle's crew swap out the switches in that box with new light and fan switches, and no one realized it because that wire was buried behind other wires. I can understand how Kyle's worker missed it while trying to trouble shoot this issue. However, I'm still a bit miffed that I end up having to fix this problem myself. Thus, while the newly installed outlets are great, I am not too thrilled with the fact that his worker knocked a wire loose while changing out bathroom switches and couldn't fix the problem. So on this part of the project, I would give Kyle's team an A on the new outlets and C for causing collateral damage on my other outlets that I had to fix myself. 3. Conclusion - other than the problems with the loose neutral wire and the scratch to the new tub noted above, everything else went smoothly. Thus, in light of the scope of this remodeling project, I decided that these two issues are minor and don't detract too much from the overall success. Thus, I ended up giving Kyle and his crew an A- overall."

"We had an excellent experience completing our whole home remodel with OC Home Builders. I have already recommended them to my neighbors, my closest friends and family. This is a hard working, honest contractor with talented craftsman who take pride in their product. This local, family business came highly recommended from our architect and we could not be happier with how they brought our plans to life. Every aspect of our home was remodeled. OC Home Builders changed our floor plan, made our home structurally sound, replaced all plumbing and electrical wiring, replaced the roof, replaced insulation, new walls, new hardwood floors, bathrooms and a kitchen completely reconstructed-literally everything! OC Home Builders was always incredibly organized and kept me and my husband up-to-date on our options, the progress of the build and the next steps. Jim is a talented and experienced contractor who runs a tight ship and has great relationships with his team. I always felt like my home was being built to the highest standards, with attention to detail and with beauty and precision in mind. America was the project manager and the person we most often interfaced with. I cannot thank her enough for always answering my questions, helping me make informed decisions for all aspects of our home, and keeping me in the loop on all of the activity and improvements being made. They were always flexible with us as we made decisions and they were helpful when troubleshooting the issues that naturally arise in a project of this size. We now live in our dream home and feel secure that every nook and cranny is well constructed, tastefully done and with the best products and craftsmanship available. Special shout out to everyone on the staff that worked on our home whether they be the OC Home Builders staff like Chayse and Derrick, or the talented subcontractors brought on to help us with every detail of our home-thanks Jesse!"

"American Home Improvement remodeled our bathroom, and the transformation was impressive. The old bathroom had constant issues and they fixed everything properly instead of covering things up. They replaced outdated fixtures, improved the layout and made the room easier to maintain. The team was honest, hardworking and very patient with our questions. They made sure everything worked perfectly before finishing. The new bathroom feels clean, calm and well-built. You can tell they care about quality, not just speed. It?s now a space we actually enjoy using instead of avoiding. We?re very happy with their work."

Bathtub Replacement questions, answered by experts

Yes, a bathroom remodel is a worthwhile home improvement project that typically adds value to your home, offering a return on investment (ROI) between 60% and 70%. Potential buyers look closely at bathrooms and kitchens, as these are often the most expensive rooms to renovate. A modern, updated bathroom is more appealing and assures buyers that the plumbing, fixtures, and flooring have a long, useful life ahead. Beyond the financial return, a remodel can also greatly increase your day-to-day satisfaction by creating a more inviting, spa-like space. Even a basic refresh with new paint and accessories can make a significant difference.

We don’t recommend using a tub liner to cover up cracks in a bathtub. Instead, you should repair the cracks yourself if you have the experience or hire a pro. Cracks may seem like small surface imperfections, but they can lead to much larger issues, so repair them as soon as you can.

The time it takes to install a bathtub depends on the type of tub, the condition of the existing plumbing, and the installation's complexity. A new bathtub can be installed in four to eight hours. However, this can take longer if any additional plumbing work or bathroom modifications are needed.

Professionals can enhance bathroom aesthetics by recommending and implementing design elements such as modern fixtures, high-quality tiles, and efficient layouts. They ensure cohesive style, compliment functionality, and an enhanced visual appeal in the space.

You should consider replacing your bathtub if the tub—or any potential refinishing—is older than about 20 years old. However, acrylic and fiberglass bathtubs have a shorter lifespan (about 10 to 15 years). You may decide to replace your bathtub sooner if there are stains or mold you can’t get rid of, no matter how much you clean it, or if you find leaks and cracks that could lead to costly water damage.
