"Davendra is an impressive individual by resume and a real pleasure to work with. He is very professional and knowledgeable, but also did very detailed and complete work which resulted in a permit without changes. He did this promptly for a reasonable price. I would certainly hire him again if I needed a structural engineer."

Customers say: Quality work

"Sharmila came recommended to us when we were ready to design and build a large cabana in our back yard. We met and let her know some of the ideas we had in mind. Sharmila has done similar projects in the past and was a wealth of knowledge in every step of the way, from the design to the amenities. Sharmila handled the drawing of the structural plan, application for permit, submitting plan to the city, etc. Throughout she was always on time and kept us updated on where we were in the process, very thorough. Sharmila is a true professional that was a pleasure to work with, we could not be happier with her and the design of our cabana."

"We hired B&B for major remodel of the kitchen, living and dining area. Daniel Perez was our project manager. The work was outstanding with quality execution on schedule and on budget. Plus Daniel and his team were very responsive after completion of the project to help on unavoidable small issues that pop up. We have done 4 remodels on our house and this was definitely the smoothest one. Call Daniel and his team if you looking to remodel."

"I located Gary on Home Advisor and was impressed with all of the positive reviews. We scheduled a personal meeting. I found him to be attentive, thoughtful and patient in reviewing my needs on a kitchen remodel. I felt no need to interview other architects. This project has been completed, and I am so thrilled with the end result."

Structural Engineering questions, answered by experts

Before contacting a structural engineer in San Mateo, gather your property address, year built, and any previous permits or inspection reports. Document visible issues with dated photos and measurements, and note any history of foundation repair or earthquake damage. Collect soil or geotechnical reports if available, and clarify your project goals. Knowing your property’s zoning, flood zone status, and proximity to fault lines helps ensure accurate assessment and compliance.

Helpful?

In San Mateo, start by monitoring small foundation cracks or wall shifts, taking clear photos and noting any changes over time. Ensure gutters and downspouts direct water away from your foundation to limit moisture intrusion. Use a dehumidifier in damp areas and keep crawl spaces ventilated. Avoid moving structural supports or performing foundation repair yourself, as local seismic risks mean even minor issues may require a structural inspection.

Helpful?

In San Mateo, homeowners often weigh the choice between meeting minimum code requirements and investing in advanced seismic upgrades for better earthquake resilience. Opting for standard materials may lower initial costs but could reduce durability in the local marine climate. Deciding between phased repairs and a comprehensive foundation repair project can help manage cash flow but may increase total time and complexity over the long term.

Helpful?

In San Mateo, overwatering plants near your foundation, ignoring clogged drains during the rainy season, or storing heavy items against basement walls can stress structural elements. Skipping routine checks for cracks or failing to maintain earthquake retrofitting can also compromise integrity. The region’s clay soil and seismic activity make it essential to prioritize regular structural inspection and foundation care to extend the lifespan of your home’s engineering work.

Helpful?

Homeowners in San Mateo may encounter unexpected costs such as fees for building permits, plan reviews, and required structural inspections. Additional expenses can arise from foundation repair, soil testing, or addressing asbestos and lead in older properties. Projects sometimes reveal the need for seismic retrofitting or drainage upgrades. Weather delays and extended permit approvals can also add time and complexity, impacting overall project timelines.
