"I recently had my kitchen cabinets refaced by Claude, and I am very pleased with the work he did. He carefully listened and delivered what I wanted to get done. I had white cabinets and wanted to change the color to an olive green/grayish from a picture frame I have in the kitchen. He perfectly had the color matched to it, and it ended up looking better than expected. He also had to make some modifications/adjustments to the frame of the cabinets because new microwave, dishwasher and gas oven were going to be installed. He works very professionally and pays good attention to the details of the overall project."

"I am very happy that we decided to choose JLT Kitchen Refinishing to do our kitchen cabinets refacing project. We talked with several contractors for estimates and the details about our project. We thought JLK would be the right company to go with. Jerry is very knowledgeable and gives us some very good professional opinions. Jose is very good technically, he listens what we needed and finished our project with style. The team who was in our house everyday worked very hard and responsible. Highly recommended!"

"Jerry and his team of craftsmen refaced/rebuilt our 30-yr old oak cabinets in the kitchen, 3 baths and hallway. They went from dark, dingy and tired to new, shaker, classic gray! Even refaced the kitchen island and added wainscoting under the dumbwaiter, added soft-close hinges and replaced pulls. They were professional, thorough and detail oriented and worked closely with us to get to the amazing end result, that transformed our house. Extremely happy with Jerry and his team."

Cabinet Contractors questions, answered by experts

Kitchen base cabinets are the cabinets that sit on the floor in your kitchen—and yes, you can stack base cabinets. Usually, homeowners stack kitchen base cabinets when building a pantry. Base cabinets come in various styles, with doors, drawers, and glass fronts—so your options for creating stacked base cabinets are endless.

Birch or maple plywoods have tight grain patterns and are dense species that hold up well over time and even in damp environments with proper sealing. These properties make them the most stable plywoods. Oak plywood is also an excellent option. However, care is necessary to ensure oak is well-sealed against moisture to ensure stability.

How much cheaper it is to replace your cabinet doors depends on your needs. If you’re looking to spruce up the look and feel of your kitchen, then you can make cosmetic adjustments to your existing doors, like installing new knobs or a fresh coat of paint. Cabinets can be some of the most costly parts of a kitchen remodel, but if there’s structural damage regarding your doors, then replacing them is your best option.

Whether you install flooring before or after kitchen cabinets depends primarily on the type of flooring you are using. For materials like hardwood, tile, and sheet flooring, the best practice is to install the flooring first. This ensures the cabinets are installed at the correct height and on a stable surface. However, you should not install cabinets on top of floating floors, such as laminate or luxury vinyl plank (LVP). These types of flooring need room to expand and contract with temperature and humidity changes. Placing heavy cabinets on top can restrict this movement, potentially causing the floor to buckle and making the cabinets unstable. For floating floors, install the cabinets first and then lay the flooring up to them. Other reasons to consider installing cabinets before the flooring include saving money on materials (since you won't need flooring under the cabinets) and avoiding potential damage to your new floor during cabinet installation. Additionally, installing cabinets directly on the subfloor might prevent voiding your flooring's warranty.

Storage cabinets can be custom or standard, depending on the purpose of the cabinet, size of your space, and available materials. If you’re looking to build something to a standard size, the usual range for cabinet dimensions are as follows:

  • Height: 12 inches–42 inches

  • Width: 12 inches–36 inches

  • Depth: 16 inches–24 inches

Taller cabinets typically have a height of 84 inches, 90 inches, and 96 inches.
