"Claude Sevigny is a cabinet master extraordinaire. Great pricing. We engaged his services for a kitchen cabinet refacing. Our cabinets are well made, but the doors and drawers were showing wear and tear, so we were looking for a vendor who could provide and install new painted cabinet doors and drawer fronts. Claude is always prompt in responding to inquiries, provides timely quotes and updates. Claude is a perfectionist, and his work is top notch. He outsources the actual door/drawer manufacturing and that work was excellent. Work was done over several days, and doors are now installed, nicely aligned, and a huge improvement over that was originally installed. The custom paint job was done to perfection. He will be returning to do a second set of cabinets in one of our bathrooms, so yes, we would rehire! Don't hesitate to contact Claude, aka Hardwood Construction 408 S Garnsey St, Santa Ana, CA 92701."

"Home Care and Repair’s Jose Pajares did an excellent job in completing the design from a sketch and building my Custom Intertainment Cabinet. The Cabinet was exactly what I wanted and fit perfectly. His crew installed and stained the unit without any problems. I’m very happy with the completed job. I recommend using Home Care and Repair for any Cabinet projects."

"We called several contractors for refacing our kitchen and bathroom cabinets, replacing countertops, and adding a couple of new cabinets. I have to say the experience was very frustrating until we got a call from Liberty Woodworking. Tom Hughes (owner) was by far the most professional, fully explaining every step of the process, including options and suggestions to optimize our storage space and $'s. We had estimates from 4-5 companies, most told us they could not do several of the things we wanted. Liberty exceeded our expectations in quality of products, design and installation experience. Tom's price was by far the best and included much more than other were offering. Tom Birch was our installer, it was a pleasure to have him in our home the the entire week during the installation. Tom was friendly & super conscientious making sure everything was done perfectly. By the time the job was complete we felt as though he was a friend we would welcome in our home any time. Thank you Tom & Tom, we are extremely pleased with our new kitchen and bathroom, we have so much more space, everything is so much nicer."

"Paul is an amazing craftsman. The quality of his workmanship and attention to detail is rare in this day an age. He completed two separate cabinet projects in our home. We continuously get compliments on these cabinets. His pricing is spot on for the custom cabinets that he produces for his customers. I highly recommend Paul for anyone wanting custom cabinets done right, plus he stands behind all his workmanship and installations. If there are any problems, a phone call to Paul and he comes back to fix it. Paul is easy to work with and has great design ideas. We would definitely hire him again. Thank you Paul !"

"After 15 years our specially designed kitchen cabinets had great structure but many of the doors needed refinishing. We tried to have the original cabinet maker to come out and quote to refinish the cabinets. After several weeks the cabinet maker never came. We turned to the well known home care web sites to find vendors who refinished cabinets. After selecting 5 of the highest rated, we contacted them. Jerry at JLT Kitchen Refinishing called us the next day, a second returned our call in 5 days and the other 3 never called. Jerry came to our house the next day to evaluate our needs. We immediately saw that Jerry was a knowledgeable and experienced cabinet refinisher. He is straight forward and recommended multiple approaches. When we told him that we were not sure which approach was best for us, he volunteered to provide 3 levels of refinishing on 3 separate doors for our decision. Also, we said if possible, we wanted to have the job done in 10 days the day before Thanksgiving. He committed to the 10 day deadline. Two days later, Jerry provided the 3 samples. Jerryâ  s staff was at our house the next morning to remove all the doors. The following morning a staff member arrived to prep the space and refinish the remaining cabinet structure. He was there for the next 7 days and finished on day 9. On day 10, the staff returned with the refinished doors and installed all by days end. Jerry and his staff are hard working and competent cabinet refinishing professionals. They met their commitments for quality and time. The price is not low but very competitive. Thanksgiving was great and the cabinets were the talk of the day. Thank you, JLT Kitchen Refinishing."

Cabinet Contractors questions, answered by experts

If your cabinets don’t reach the ceiling, you can extend them higher, adding visual interest, privacy, and storage space to your kitchen. Depending on the height of your ceiling, you may want to extend the structure of the cabinets and install longer doors to make each individual cabinet taller, or you could add additional cabinets above the existing ones. Either option is cheaper and easier than installing entirely new cabinets.

It's possible to replace lower kitchen cabinets without removing the countertop. However, there are some special considerations to keep in mind. Expect to disassemble the existing cabinets without compromising the countertop's support. You might not be able to reuse the cabinets you remove. Next, you'll have to slightly modify the tops of the new cabinets and install blocking after installation to attach the base to the countertop.

The 1/3 rule is a design guideline used by interior designers and cabinet installers to select appropriately sized pulls for cabinets and drawers. The rule suggests that for a balanced and cohesive look, a cabinet pull should be approximately one-third the height of the cabinet door or one-third the width of the drawer face. This guideline helps create a symmetrical appearance because the human eye tends to follow the length of the pull across the cabinet face.

While the 1/3 rule is a helpful starting point, it is not the only option. If a measurement falls between available pull sizes, it's generally best to size up. For an ultra-contemporary aesthetic, you can also opt for full-width pulls that span the entire drawer.

Like nearly any other upgrade, new and improved kitchen cabinets can increase your property value and make your home more attractive to potential buyers. After all, the majority of home buyers consider the kitchen to be one of the most important rooms in the house. New melamine cabinets can be a big plus, particularly if you select a classic wood grain or another light neutral color that provides a blank slate for other design elements.

Contractors commonly install floors before cabinets during a kitchen remodel. It’s the standard option when installing hardwood, vinyl, and tile flooring. Installing flooring first helps prevent height misalignment, ensures a seamless appearance, and saves extra flooring work and costs if you plan to replace or remove any cabinets later.
